We had the good fortune of connecting with Karina F. Daves and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karina F., how do you think about risk?
Risk is basically taking the chance on something and knowing that whatever the outcome is will be figured out because you’re a badass. Seriously, mama –the minute that we start taking reigns of our power and realize that risks are a part of the recipe the life, the sooner we can start living.

Plenty of us wait things out or spend countless hours thinking of various outcomes and we can prevent ourselves from getting hurt. And while there does exist certain decisions that require more of a calculated risk, I will say that I have gotten the most amount of joy and least amount of anxiety when I just trusted myself. Trusting myself is the risk. Trusting myself is believing that no matter what happens, I’m going to make it.

The biggest risk my family took was coming to this country with just a dream of making it. I desire half their grit at times because the mentality to propel yourself to a whole different country because you want more for yourself is the hugest risk anyone can think of. I’ve taken a risk on myself as a woman, a partner, a mother and an entrepreneur. The biggest risk I’ve taken was believing that I was more than my 9-5. I got caught up in the lie that once I was married and became a mom, that is was the only role I could have, but that was false.

I started taking risks on myself and realized that I actually still had a creative bug inside of me that was yearning to get out. She wanted to resurrect the side of her that was lost when she became a mom. She still wanted to travel. She still wanted to dance. She still wanted to just enjoy her life and take a risk everyday. Whether that risk was to stand up for herself or set a boundary with a toxic family member –she wanted to take a risk.

You deserve to take a risk everyday on yourself, why wait –everyone else is out there playing.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started my life coaching business in October of 2020 after almost 6 months of nursing my perfectionism. I had launched my website as a blogger, started a podcast and got my butt on social media however, I quickly realized that I was working so much on the outside and not enough of the inside of myself. I had all of this experience with my background as a social worker and mentor in higher education for close to 14 years that I focused on the wrong things like design and nice looking content.

I realized that people needed value, they needed my guidance, they needed me. I am a life coach for women, specifically for moms because I know how much we can lose ourselves in that role thinking that it’s the only thing we can do. As someone who did lose herself, I have made it my mission to help other women and moms realize that they are still human and their dreams still matter.

I want the world to know that although society will convince you into this snapback culture where you’re overworked and underpaid, don’t fall trapped into that mentality. If you desire more, then listen to that voice of reason, the voice that is screaming let me out!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would probably take you to Philly to eat as much pizza and sushi as we could find! Then we would check into a hotel that had a rooftop pool with highly rated spas and we would spend the entire week just relaxing!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my most recent coaches who all happen to be Latinas. In January of 2021 I made the decision to take a financial risk on myself. I wasn’t going to wait till I paid off this or stacked up a little more here, I was going to stop playing it so safe and take a risk on myself to be coached by women who looked like me.

I want to dedicate this shoutout to Jannese Torres-Rodriguez, Latina Money Expert @yoquierodineropodcast; Catalina Del Carmen, Business Coach @catdelcarmen & Erika Cruz, Latina Coach & Speaker @theerikacruz –these women helped me launch my life coaching business not just by providing the tools that I needed to get started but the confidence and unwavering belief in me that it was possible. They all believed that I was gifted and helped me get to a place of impact, a place that no one can take from me and all because I took a risk.
