We had the good fortune of connecting with Karina Müller and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Karina, what do you want people to remember about you?
As I started painting very late in my life after survive cancer in 2008 I really love the idea that I can create something unique – what I did not even expected to be able to do. Since 2013, when me and my husband moved to Ayamonte in the very southwest of Andalusia this is a real passion, not just a hobby and painting fills my life with joy every day. I hope, family and friends remember me by looking at my artwork!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As I discovered my talent during a rehabilitation after the diagnostic cáncer I did not start painting right away, There were to many things to do before I could live without working and dedicate time to my passion. We sold our 39.000 m2-Finca where we cared for over 300 olive trees… Arriving in Ayamonte and moving into a townhouse suddenly I realizad that THAT was the moment to start painting seriously. I began to paint flamenco dancers, and people loved them… I experimented with many materials and styles to find my own style and still don`t know when I finally will do! Actually I love abstract painting but as well to paint portraits and impressionistic style landscapes of our region. Most sales of my artwork I do during exhibitions and orders by facebook.
As a selftought artist I went through many ups and downs but always found help and information in local clases, workshops and internet of course.
Whenever someone feels a passion inside my advice is to go on and learn by doing!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Of course first I would go with my friend through the typical streets of my beloved Ayamonte! Taste the delicious tapas, the delicate han from Huelva, the gambas and te wine… In summer we are proud of the wide sandy Atlantic beaches so I would invite my friend to have a sundowner cocktail in one of the numerous chiringuitos, the typical beachbars of the Costa de la Luz after spending a fantastic day at the beach. The ferry that goes from Ayamonte to Vila Real de Santo Antonio in Portugal crossing the Guadiana River is a must do as well as visiting our Cultural Center Casa Grande with lots of paintings in changing exhibitions. Middle of August of course we have the amazing PASEO POR EL ARTE, Spains biggest open air art exhibition in the streets with about 10.000 visitors during 2 nights. When my friend still is in good Form of course we should visit Seville and the nearby Algarve. And very proud I would show my name on the cerámic wallpainting close yo te ferry :21 female painters including myself reinterpreted Joaquin Sorollas masterpiece of the ‘tuna fish catch”
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Ayamonte is the very special little charming town I ow so much: it is a place with more than 100 artists. Many of them supported my shy start as a painter in 2013. And there is a group of female painters that offered to me many opportunities I would never have had without joining them.
This group encouraged me a lot: actually the members are Ana Feu, Nuria Fuentes, Carla Mourão, Rocío Romero García, María Rosa Gómez Jiménez, Elisabete Guerreiro, Manuela Santos y Denise Tirrel.
We are 9 female artists with 4 Origins: Spain, Portugal, Angola and Germany, a meltingpot in the beautiful southwest of Spain!
