We had the good fortune of connecting with Karla Torres and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Karla, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
It was an idea a friend and I shared. I’m an athletic mom and I spend a lot of my spare time at sport events. With the miami heat sometimes water just isn’t enough so I decided to make a conversation into a business.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am proud that I started my business, we tend to live in fear of the unknown. So I am very proud I started it. Running a business while working a full time job, going to school and being a mother is more than hard!
Some of the lessons I’ve learned are that not everyone will see your vision not everyone will cheer for you and that’s ok. I also have learned to just do it, do not second think yourself.
I want everyone to know that Slushies On Wheels Italian Ice is here to stay and great things are coming but I also want to encourage anyone that would like to start an Italian Ice business to do it there is enough room for all of us.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m more of a homebody but I would definitely do Wynwood I love the variety of food, bars and the different people. Restaurant I would take them to KYU
Places to check out would be top golf and of course the beaches
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
To start I would like to thank god because without him I would be nothing. My son AJ for being my cheerleader, James Cadet for being my right hand person, Agnes E. Saint Preux owner of The Alliance Building Network for helping me with all my paperwork and of course to all my family and customers who have supportive since day 1
