We had the good fortune of connecting with Kateryna Reznikova and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kateryna, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I grew up in a family of entrepreneurs, and since childhood I saw my parents looking for opportunities and ideas to make money. So it was a pretty natural process for me. In high school, I dreamed of owning my own restaurant, so I entered the university to study Tourism and Hotel and Restaurant Management. While studying at university, I worked part-time in restaurants and studied everything related to this field – from service to management and finance. I believe that having a dream is the best incentive for an entrepreneur. So after graduation, I started actively thinking about how to open my first restaurant, where to get the money for it, and how to make the least amount of mistakes. I talked to restaurateurs and business owners, attended courses and business camps, took consultations, and actively searched for my concept. And as soon as I saw my idea, I immediately found a place and borrowed money to start.
In my opinion, launching the first business is very different from all subsequent ones. In the first project, I did everything myself and tried to save money on everything. And this is not a bad thing, but it takes too much time and effort. There are several ways to look for ideas: the first, as I did with the restaurant, when you are looking for them. The other is when an idea is born out of a need, out of your understanding of the market. That’s what happened with Dip food. The second option is more organic, but most often everyone starts their entrepreneurial journey with the first. Later, when I launched Dip Food, I did everything more carefully but confidently. I delegated tasks to professionals to get the best result, I analyzed the market and was absolutely confident in my service.
Now I have more ideas than time and resources to implement them. When you build up your entrepreneurial muscle, you start to see opportunities every day, in crises and in falls, in failures and in the success of others. That’s why I believe that the main thing is to keep going and create a team that will help you realize new ideas.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have been in the food business for over 11 years. The dream of my own restaurant came true and at the age of 23 I opened my first cafe in the center of Kyiv. It was a period of daily gaining my own entrepreneurial experience, as I opened it with minimal borrowed funds. Therefore, I learned to perform all positions from waiter to marketing&director on my own. As the business grew, so did I. When the business became more independent, I started helping others start their own restaurants, providing consulting and opening turnkey restaurants. At the same time, I was looking for new ideas. That’s how “Dip food”, a boxed food delivery service for parties, events, and occasions, came about. Along with it, I launched “Vlasna Kitchen”, a space for culinary events, filming, master classes, and tastings. I like how food can bring people together, I like to create delicious events and services that help people enjoy the celebration and communication, rather than thinking about the hassle and organization. I believe that food should give pleasure, well-being, and pleasant emotions, and this is the mission I bring to the food business.
Dip food is a ready-made solution for any event. It is beautiful and tasty like catering, but simple and clear as pizza ordering. You just need to open the lid and your party begins. This is the service we have been providing for over 5 years in Ukraine and now we are starting in the USA. Dip food is already operating in Miami.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I have some of my favourite places for food where I would take my friend. “All you need” is for breakfast, “Rustic Inn Crabhouse ” is for crabs and experience, and Julia&Henry’s Food Hall is for the time when you don’t know what you want exactly:) When I want to have some fun I like to walk in the Design District, have some cocktails in the Art District and go to dinner on Espanola Way.
And if I want to impress and give them some more experience for my guests I would take them to “Baku Asian Fusion Bar”.
For relaxing time spent, I will take my guests to “Patch of Heaven Sanctuary”.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First of all, I would like to dedicate my shout-out to my parents. As a child, I was never limited in my development and was always allowed to try new things. I attended all possible clubs, tried myself, and looked for what I liked best. I think that the skill of not being afraid to try new things and not feeling like a loser when something doesn’t work out has had a strong impact on my life. It is this approach that I now follow in raising my daughter. Secondly, and this will probably sound a little strange, but I started to get interested in positive psychology and meditation very early on. In high school, I read books on this topic and attended various motivational trainings and courses. My parents also supported me in this. My mom always assured me that dreaming is important and that all wishes come true if you really want them to. And to work hard:)
