We had the good fortune of connecting with Kathy Rosario @kathysnapped and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kathy, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
As I go through more experiences in my life, I realize what’s important to me and what steps I need to take to get on the road I want to be on. My balance continues to shift by these realizations. Over time, I’ve started to prioritize perfecting my craft and learning new things that inspire my art. The pandemic helped me in that regard due to its forced seclusion. I admit I heavily lean to one side and there are benefits to my career if I choose play over work sometimes. With having balance comes boundaries, discipline and learning to forgive yourself when you cross those boundaries. It’s easy to get pulled to one side of the scale and I’m still learning to be conscience of the shifts.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I was always the friend with the camera, but it was more of a hobby growing up. I never imagined it could be my job. I used to have a music blog where I’d write about the latest music and cover shows with an interview series. It didn’t take long until I realized I needed to stop hiring other photographers and videographers to cover the shows for me. I instantly fell in love with photographing live music. Not long after that, I stopped blogging and decided to give photography the chance I secretly always wanted to give it.

Music drives my art. There’s nothing I love more than photographing a festival with next level production and an insane lineup. My favorite festivals to document have been Lighting in A Bottle, which takes place in California and Envision, which takes place in Costa Rica. The pandemic caused an abrupt halt to that. It was the pause I didn’t know I needed. My creative itch never goes away and it inspired me to start working in fashion and product photography.

I’m still learning how to toggle all the hats that come with being a professional creative in todays world. I’ve learned you can’t be too hard on yourself. I appreciate where I am on my journey and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When I have friends in town it’s always a nice excuse to see some nature. The Everglades or Captiva Island are a must if the weather permits. Of course, Cuban food would be in the mix and Versailles in Little Havana will not disappoint. The Ropa Vieja always hits the spot. If Japanese is the craving, my favorite restaurant is Makoto so we’d definitely be making a stop there. Word is we have the best beaches, so catch us somewhere under a palm tree soaking up the sun.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The support I receive from my family and closest friends is unmatched. They help me build my confidence of knowing anything is possible if you put the work in and I am who I am because of them. Working in the creative industry has gravitated me to the most amazing people and I just want to take this time to say thank you to anyone that has answered a technical question, referred me to a job or just went out of there way to tell me they believe in me.
