We had the good fortune of connecting with Katia Del Prete and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katia, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
This is the will to convey my concept. I come from Italy from a town where a simple bakery is a landmark. We go to the bakery in the morning to buy a snack for the boys that go to the school and the lunch to bring at work. After working, we go again in there to buy something to eat for the family dinner. I lived in a place where the bakery becomes the point of reference of everyone…. and it is something beautiful and familiar. Now that I am living in Miami, a beautiful and big city, I thought that is not impossilble to create something similar. This is something that can improve and unify our community.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In Italy I grew up in this business that belonged to my family and from here the Idea to start also in Miami something that I really believe. I chose the name Joy Italian Bakery because Joy (in italian is Gioia) is my mum’s name and I want it to remain a family business. One important thing for me and for everyone is to show how exquisite foods can come out from “natural” ingredients. There is a quote from a writer, Virginia Woolf, that hits the point “One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well”.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Miami beach and South point area. Dolphine mall. Bayside.
Winwood.
Brickell and Blue Martini night bar ( they have every Tuesday Karaone entrateinment).
Fairchild botanic park

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband and my family who supports me day after day. In addition to this, a special thanks to a person who has transmitted to me the love for what I do and who I consider a mentor and an example of perseverance and dedication to this profession, Ezio Pagliaroli.
