We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayla Watson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kayla, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting The Living Room Sesh came to me about 4 years ago, I was the bar manager at a local event spot called Loud Gallery and every Monday they would host an open mic. During my time there I saw how many talented individuals we are in our city and across the country and I realized that I wanted to create a platform for artist to express their true selfs and their true aesthetic to their audience.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Starting The Living Room Sesh was far from easy, after having my son I knew I needed to gain a way to truly do what I love to do so he can witness and grow up with parents who live through their passions. Becoming a mom made me fearless, so I would say my son really encouraged me to take this idea I’d been sitting on for years and really push it. The Living Room Sesh is an experience for Artist like no other, we cater specifically to the artist so each set, each visual, each person gets a customized visual or event that really grasps exactly who they are as an artist and gives their fans an intimate vibe to show them who they truly are as artist. We make it so fitting it feels like the artist is bring their fans into their acutal homes with our visuals/events.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve lived in Orlando my whole life so this one is fun for me. First we’d have breakfast at Brick and Spoon in maitland which is the best brunch spot ever, then we would head downtown for some bike rides, farmers market at lake eola and of course the awesome shooters downtown, we would also head to international drive, have some fun at icon park with rides and music and of course drinks, we’d end our night at my favorite spot ever which is Tori Tori which has the best tapas in town and of course fabulous drink menu.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Well of course my family, my husband and my son are my reasons why I do everything that I do and why I work so hard at what I do. My husband is actually the person who urged me to push myself to my creative heights. He believed in me before I believed in myself. I also have to give a huge shoutout to my mentor William Moxey his a serial entrepreneur and always inspiring me and pushing me to reach the heights of success that I couldn’t even imagine for myself.
