We had the good fortune of connecting with Keefe Klug and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keefe, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I try to work smarter; not harder. Gigging 5 or 6 times a week, including multiple times a day on some weekends was unsustainable. I have come to realize how to better value my brand. This not only increases my income, but contributes very positively to my work/life balance.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a songwriter and live performer currently residing in the heart of Atlanta,GA. Describing ones on genre is hard, but I would break it down into some combination on Soul/Country/R&B. I have opened for, or shared the stage, with a wide variety of acts over the years ranging from Cake to Afroman to Heidi Newfield.

Being a independent artist takes a lot of work. You are essentially running a small business completely on your own. The responsibility of every facet of your success relies squarely on your own shoulders.

The most pride I take is having been recognized by some the most important leaders in our industry. To have people of importance validate all of my hard work is truly gratifying. Even if I don’t achieve the fame of others, it lets me feel that the effort I have put in was worthwhile.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In Atlanta…oh man that is tough!

There are so many amazing restaurants in this town. With good weather we would walk the Beltline and try every little spot between Piedmont Park and Reynoldstown. The Civil Rights Museum is a must. Northside Tavern is an awesome old blues bar in West Midtown that I bring everyone to whenever they visit. Play 9 holes on golf at the Bobby Jones golf course. And at the end of the night head over to 11th st Pub. It is the watering hole for all midtown locals. I don’t even like typing its name because we like keeping It our own little secret!

Every week there is a new festival or event going on. Whether it be Sweetwater420 fest, the USTA Atlanta Open in my backyard of Atlantic Station, Chomp and Stomp, Midtown Music, etc. You really can’t go wrong!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
At this moment, my entire heart and mind is with my old home of Lee County, FL. I realized my calling as a professional musician in the 8 years I lived down there. Less than 24 hours after hurricane Ian most of the venues I cut my teeth at are no longer there. Completely washed away.

Professionally, the IslandHopper Songwriter Festival in SWFL was instrumental (no pun intended) in shaping my path
