We had the good fortune of connecting with Keera Belviy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keera, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Being self-reliant and overly detailed as an individual has led to the strong desire to carve our own path to design surf gear & wear we feel is Vital to the industry. Having a tenacious drive led us to pursue a career that catered to ethics shared by many; being mindful and conscious of what you buy, and what your buying is made from.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Our story is a relatable as we started with a conventional 9-5 job, feeling restless to escape the monotony of a pre-booked schedule, we dreamed of chasing that freedom we felt in the ocean. It got to the point where we had to do something! I started with a simple Google search and found a few non-profit programs that volunteer to help assist you in starting your own endeavors. Meeting with and networking within these organizations gave me the resources and confidence to start Vital Surf Gear. I make sure to do extensive research to ensure we are choosing the most sustainable options for our brand. We are not afraid to ask questions to get answers. Because of our strong eco commitments, we have women’s wetsuits made from Yulex rubber, a renewable resource, zero-plastic packaging, and work with 90% USA suppliers.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Our Gulf Coast where we reside is a magical place adorned with dolphins, manatees and endless sunsets, it’s really a no-brainer to head to any of the beaches year round to enjoy the soft surf and nature.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to give a huge shout out to our friend Tasha Chapman. She has started her online art page and has grown a huge success! She is so humble and talented and it reminds us from the very beginning, to chase your creative pursuits!
