We had the good fortune of connecting with Keisha Gaines and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keisha, as a parent, what have you done for your children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
The most important thing I’ve done as a parent in terms of impacting my children is to be constantly working towards being a good example to them. I have two beautiful daughters and I want them to grow up seeing mommy strive to do the things Jesus wants us to do. Which is spreading the gospel, love God and others, help our neighbors, show humility, and forgive others. My relationship with Jesus shapes my life in a lot of ways including my children and my business. When I started Keisha Cakes, I wanted something that is fulfilling but also allows me to have time to spend with my children. For me money or profit does not take precedence over my family. I make sure I’m available to do things like attend different activities at their schools, help with homework, play with them or even teach them how to bake like mommy. I’m also blessed to have a hard working husband that allows my business to be flexible. I want them to learn from me that their identity doesn’t come from your job or career but it’s deeply rooted in who Christ says they are. I hope they are impacted in the ways that truly matter.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I remember always loving art as a child, I would draw and paint all the time. The problem for me was how would that translate into a career. For a long time I thought I couldn’t incorporate my art into a career that I love. It wasn’t until I found the world of cake decorating that everything just clicked. I finally found something that I could be totally creative with and just fell in love with the process of creating a custom cake. Almost every cake I make is something new that I haven’t done before so that keeps the work very interesting. I joke around with my husband and call myself a cake engineer because most of what I do is trying to figure out how am I going to make the idea that a customer or I have come to life on an edible creation. I want the world to know that I love what I do and it pours out into every cake baked. I work hard to make sure my customers expectations are met and hopefully exceed even what they thought they wanted.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
One of my favorite spots in Boynton Beach is well the beach. It’s always a crowd pleaser. I love just walking down Atlantic Avenue in Downtown Delray Beach eating at one of the restaurants there. Or catch a movie at the iPic movie theater because the seats are so comfortable and the food is yummy!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank a lot of people for the successes I’ve had in my business. First, I’d like to thank God for giving me this talent in the first place. My husband for being so supportive of me starting and continuing to grow my business. My entire family for being my biggest cheerleaders and promoters. My friends for encouraging and motivating me to not give up when the business gets hard. And lastly my church family at Gospel Fellowship in Boynton Beach, they keep me busy by always ordering from me and supporting my business.
