Meet Keisha Gaines | Founder/CEO/Cake Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Keisha Gaines and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keisha, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I have two important factors behind my success, quality and authenticity. Quality because I’ve always strived to deliver the best product possible. If something is not right I start over even though it will cost me money. I will always choose quality over profit. I don’t like it when you buy a product that you love then the company changes the formula to save their bottom line. I believe in keeping recipes that everyone loves the same and not to change it because there are less expensive options. My cakes must taste the same or even get better but never worse. The second one is authenticity. People also come to me (and return) because I’m myself. I don’t pretend to be someone I’m not and I think that shows during my interactions with customers. I offer suggestions that will be suit their needs even if it’s a lesser option. I genuinely love what I do and will always operate with excellence. No other option.
What should our readers know about your business?
I’ve been very diligent about learning as much as I can about business so I can make better decisions regarding my business. I’ve invested time into being apart of Goldman Sachs: Black in Business program and eCornell’s Women Entrepreneur certificate program to learn more about the business world. I know what I want now and the knowledge and confidence I’ve gained from both programs helps me to feel settled with the choices I make. Not only am I taking into consideration my business needs but my own as well. My well being and mental health is factored into the equation, not just money. My definition of success might not look the same as others and that’s totally fine. I want to live a well rounded life without having to sacrifice other things that are important to me just to have a business.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spots in Boynton Beach is Caloosa Park for a nice walk, downtown Boynton during one of many events they have like Taste of Boynton, and seeing some animals and getting a strawberry milkshake from The Girls in Delray beach.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to Jesus! Without him I would not have this passion and gift to create a business and these cakes. He deserves all the glory and honor. I’m just a vessel with hopes that my work, how I treat people, and how I steward my blessings will be pleasing to him and him alone.
