We had the good fortune of connecting with Kela Whitney and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kela, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My business, KeeWhiSoul was born out of an intense personal journey of healing and self study. I grew up experiencing a lot of childhood trauma and neglect and in my early thirties, I started to realize how that was affecting the way that I show up in the world. I was exhausted of living through the same trauma loops, reliving negative memories and feeling stuck in my patterns. I started on my path to healing with bi-weekly therapy and almost daily spiritual work like meditation, breathing exercises and yoga. I really put myself out there by purchasing coaching programs and joining support groups for people who had survived tough upbringings, as I did. What I found changed my life. Therapy helped me see that I had been taking a backseat my whole life and allowing things to just happen to me without asserting any control or responsibility. Spiritual work helped me to clear that old, stagnant energy and center myself long enough to set new intentions for my life. Connecting with others who had gone through similar circumstances helped me to see that there are so many other people who are living in survival mode due to trauma and deeply desire to escape that cycle, but just don’t know where to begin. I discovered that healing is more of a daily practice, than a destination and I have the tools and the experience to help other people begin their healing journey-even as I navigate my own. I’ve learned that the major keys to evolving into my highest, most evolved version are unapologetic self care, unconditional self acceptance and radical self love. KeeWhiSoul is about sharing the gift of that knowledge with everyone that needs it.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My story and my commitment to helping women who are where I have been, is what sets me apart. I’ve learned to reparent myself by figuring out exactly where I needed healing and learning how to go within instead of looking for that everywhere else. My brand is about showing other people who feel like their development has been arrested by trauma, how to get unstuck. KeeWhiSoul is books, in-person experiences, apparel, digital courses and personal coaching that inspires you to align your entire life with your intention to evolve. It’s about putting radical self love into practice. I believe my divine purpose is to let people know that hey, you get to make a conscious choice to heal and it will look different every day but you are more than capable. The real you is healed, whole & complete- mind, body & spirit.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friend is in St. Louis visiting I’d show them a great time! We’d definitely hit all my favorite vegan restaurants because the food is amazing and even meat eaters can appreciate it, promise. We’d go to the award winning Black owned restaurant Sweet Art. Their food just tastes like love plus you get to see beautiful Black art by Cbabi Bayoc. Win-win! We’d go to Bombay Food Junkies and I can’t forget Turmeric, a delicious new spot with a modern twist on Indian cuisine. We’d definitely explore the Central West End and the Delmar loop for the night life, eclectic shops and iconic St. Louis memorabilia. If my friend is a first timer to this area we’d have to visit the incomparably majestic Botanical Gardens and then of course the Arch! There’s a tram that takes you to the top of the Arch and you can get out and see the whole city. The view is one of a kind.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to the the Divine Creator! The reason I’m here and the reason all my experiences-no matter how they have felt, have been curated for my highest good. Shoutout to Nicole Ben, a truly supportive sister who recommended we connect. Shoutout to my 2 sons, Keaton & Kaj who mean the world to me. They inspire me to keep evolving so I can show up as the best parent for them.
