We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelly O’Shea and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelly, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started performing when I was very young and was blessed for it to blossom into a career that allows me to do what I love and what I am passionate about as my job. I am lucky enough to travel the world, make life-long mentors and friends, and sing and perform some of the best music ever written. I started my business because I wanted to give the kids in the community the same opportunities I had when I was young and whether they decide for it to be a hobby or a career, we all still get the amazing opportunity to come together and make music and art! And I believe that makes a difference in their lives, mine, as well as everyone who gets to experience their joy making music! These classes are not only to work on the art of performing but for the kids to have a place to be themselves, express themselves, and build friendships with others who share the same interests and passions. Music bonds people together in a beautiful way and I think that is very important when growing up and in life! I love teaching and connecting with students, I have always worked for other music schools and decided I wanted to start my own business to direct it how I always dreamed!  Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Apart from owning my performing arts school, I am pursuing a full-time career as a singer. I got my Bachelors and Master Degree in Vocal Performance and have been training and performing ever since. My dream is to travel the world as a professional opera singer! It is a long journey but I truly love every minute of it and look forward to what the future holds for me! I have learned that in this career it takes passion, grit, vulnerability, ambition, and a deep love for the art of opera and classical music. It is truly a job that is you vs. you and you decide everyday how you are going to show up. It has definitely not always been easy, there have been many hurdles and tears and a lot of rejection. I have overcome these challenges because at the end of the day, there is nothing in this world that feels better than singing some of the most beautiful music in the world and moving and impacting the people around you. Music is universal and everyone can come together and listen to something that moves them and makes a difference in their life. I have also learned that you really do have to love the journey and not the destination. Being a singer reflects who I am as a person and what I am going through in life, it is vulnerable but that is what makes it beautiful. This kind of passion and thinking is what I have brought into my business and why I think I have been able to build a successful business that reflects all the beauty involved in performance.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When my friends and family visit I always have the same itinerary to show them what I think are the best parts of Miami. I love showing them Miami Beach, this is not only where I work and have my first performing arts school but the beaches are stunning! If possible I always like for everyone to have the chance to be on the water, there is nothing like a boat ride with the view of the Miami skyline. I also like to show them the places that I do my gigs with my bands. I sing funk, soul, classics, Top 40, and more at local bars, restaurants. Some of my favorites are Glass & Vine and Bayshore Club in Coconut Grove where I sing most weekends. I also love to go dancing and bring friends and family to get a little taste of Latin culture. The restaurants and bars on Calle Ocho are a great place to get some dinner and dance to Salsa and Bachata all night! My favorite restraint in Miami is La Trova, amazing food, drinks, and live Latin music.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people and organizations that have gotten me to where I am today. First and more importantly, I will start with my family. They have been my number one fans and supporters both on and off the stage and I owe everything to their encouragement and support. I also had the privilege to work in music and dance schools, where I learned so much about teaching and running a business and have emulated much of what I have learned in my school. I am also lucky to be blessed with many friends in the art of music who I have leaned on more times than I can count. They helped me when I had questions about which direction to go in when building my business. Leaning and learning from the successful people around me has led me to much of my success.
