We had the good fortune of connecting with Kemisha Cole and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kemisha, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea to start my business (KemDes), came about because I was always looking for good quality hair extensions at affordable prices. I love getting my hair done like most women do, and getting it done without breaking the bank. I like “good quality” weave, so I decided to research for vendors that had good quality with affordable prices. My research continued for months, which was frustrating at times, however, I kept doing my research. After four months of speaking to vendors and looking at samples, I found bundles/wigs that was affordable. With all the knowledge gained through the research, I started thinking that maybe this could be my side hustle. At first it was just family members, but them friends started asking to purchase both bundles and wigs so that is how KemDes started. A few months into starting my business, my customers kept asking me for lashes. I was not sure about lashes, because at that time I had never worn fake lashes, and I do not believe in selling products that I do not or wear. Again, I started doing my research on Mink Lashes. This did not take a long time as Mink Lashes are much easier to find than weave. Now my business is Bundles, Wigs, and Mink Lashes with adhesive and lashes washing machine. During this time, I was thinking about one particular product that I wanted to add to my business. I am a ‘Curvy girl’ and I like looking sleek in my outfits, so I thought that if my hair is beautifully done, I should look great in my outfit as well. With this thought in mind I said to myself why not do a ‘Shapewear’ to complete the look. I started to do my research, and again started to share with my family members because I wanted their opinion. After a few months, I found a manufacturer that could design a shapewear that that fits well, with breathable material, and gives you that ‘snatch’ look and is affordable. I am satisfied with the research and effort that I put into my business – KemDes. Kemisha
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I always do my research before I present my product to my customers. What sets me apart from others is that my product are good quality and affordable prices. What I am most excited about is that I just celebrated my one year anniversary, and I enjoy wearing the products that I sell. I studied Business at Bury College in Manchester England and my mother is a Business major as well, so the path was open before me. I also went to Career Academy for nursing and I also work as a LPN. I had to learn how to be patient and persistent. My mother is my biggest cheerleader who continues to remind me that hard work will be rewarded and you cannot fail unless you try. KemDes is unique, fresh on the market, and is looking forward to increase its market share.
