We had the good fortune of connecting with Ken Dunek and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ken, what role has risk played in your life or career?
If you believe in yourself, have a marketable product or service, and are willing to work hard. The sky is the limit. There is always danger of the unknown, but learning how to fly without a parachute is one of the most invigorating experiences you will ever have.

If you are single with little or no financial responsibilities, GO FOR IT! If you are married with children and saddles with responsibilities, do it as a side hustle until you can make the transition to full time.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have had several careers, starting with professional football in the 1980’s. I played for the Philadelphia Eagles, NY Giants, Baltimore Colts (NFL) and Philadelphia/Baltimore Stars (USFL).

After retiring from football in 1987, I spent 30 years in the wholesale fine paper industry selling to magazines, printers, and newspapers.

In 2010 we launched JerseyMan Magazine, and we now have franchises in Phila/South Jersey, Boston, and Miami.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Probably golfing at Pine Valley in Clementon, NJ (rated the #1 course in the world), followed by a trip to Brooklyn for a meal at Peter Luger’s Steak House.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To be successful in life, someone ha to believe in you. My parents always encouraged me with positive affirmations about my future. My sophomore basketball coach in high school, Roger Cannon, saw something in me early on and helped me become a very good player.

When I transitioned to professional football, Philadelphia Eagles Head Coach Dick Vermeil saw my potential and gave e a spot on the 1980 NFC Championship team.

My wife and daughters are now my support system and my goal is to support them and make them proud.
