We had the good fortune of connecting with Kenneth Benjamin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kenneth, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I believe that commitment an consistency have been the greatest driving force behind the success we have been blessed to experience at Lignum Honey. Just always maintaining a presence and voice in the culture is important to not only remind customers that you are still here but also to provide content that is relevant for current and future customers alike.
What should our readers know about your business?
This isn’t your average sweetener, honey. 2022 marks Lignum Honey’s second year as a world-class brand offering honey sourced from Jamaica’s finest apiaries. The GTA-based company offers an unparalleled depth of flavour across four distinct varietals including Logwood Blossom, Coffee Blossom, and the best-selling infused Scotch Bonnet Pepper honey. The uber-versatile product is at its best as a stand-alone sweetener, but also raises the profile of marinades, dressings, and charcuterie boards.
We are currently ending our 2nd year in business and it hasn’t been easy to say the least. We began right before the onset of the pandemic and experienced major issues with everything from shipping, supplies and increased fees for every possible thing that you can imagine. Leveraging our great support network of business owners and mentors has been key to us surviving those times and finding solutions in order to remain standing. But most of all our amazing customers have always supported and promoted us which has given us the drive to continue to overcome and grow as a brand.
I think the biggest lesson that we have learned is that in order to succeed you must stay committed, focused, consistent, maintain integrity and value community over competition.
Lignum Honey is committed to showcasing the amazing honey that can be found in Jamaica and making a tangible financial impact on the business that are a part of our supply chain.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Toronto is a collection of cultures that is as authentic as they come. Communities are encouraged to maintain their identity an way of life even when moving here so that makes for a scene that is so unique and real that there are so many things to see and do that it would take you way longer than a week to see just the top ones.
But heres a list of things to see do and eat:
CN Tower
Sugar Cane Restaurant
Joybird Restaurant
Atomic10
Mildreds Kitchen Temple
Art Gallery of Toronto
St. Lawrence Mar ket
Kensington Market
High Park
Royal Ontario Museum
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that are responsible for who I am today and for the success of Lignum. But I would like to highlight Chef Noel at this time. He was someone that immediately pushed our company on all of his platforms during our first meeting. He has been a strong supporter of everything that our brand does and never ever fails to show up wherever we are. He has consistently offered is advise and is a strong advocate for high quality Jamaican products and services. He is definitely a valued asset for our culture and community.
