Hi Keren-happuch Kezia, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
One of my favorite affirmations is, “I am great, blessed, healthy, happy, successful, abundant and live a luxurious life with integrity.” I say this daily as a positive reinforcement to a busy day or week. I want to always surround myself with good energy and walk with confidence to handle any situation. I am determined to do my best and push myself to higher heights. Therefore, affirming positive phrases and words combined with faith and belief, I can do anything I put my all into.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Keren Kezia Beauty is a cosmetics brand inspired by my Barbadian and Guyanese roots. I admire my Caribbean culture and I felt it was essential to highlight the Caribbean’s radiant and tropical colors into my brand and into the beauty world. I am excited about the longevity of the company and the growth. Being able to create and come up with new ideas daily is so much fun and makes me fall more in love with the brand everyday. It’s fun to push your creativity, launch new products and make customers happy. My love for makeup, beauty, hair, etc. has taken to me to where I am today and staying positive through every hurdle. Having a business is hard work and you need to be strong and determined. Waking up early to respond to emails or staying up late to communicate with manufacturers is a few of the necessary tasks I need to do to run my business. I learned along the way that it’s okay to take breaks and hire whoever is necessary to get the job done and be patient. Sales are never going to be the same across the board, so if you’re having a great week, followed by a slower week, be patient and stay positive. I want the world to know that Keren Kezia Beauty is a vibrant and fun company that brings out the confidence and beauty in everyone. I am determined to be one of the top black owned beauty brands in the world. I want to be an inspiration to other entrepreneurs and encourage them to keep going and reach their dreams one by one.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would explore the different districts, and try as many restaurants as possible. Miami has a variety of cozy restaurants and fine dining experiences and the food is incredible, so I do not have any favorites. I really love to shop and fashion so I would definitely recommend the Miami Design District. After a few days of shopping and eating and partying, I would unwind with a beautiful and relaxing beach day at Miami Beach.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate my shoutout to my mother, Sandra Fernella. She is my best friend and always pushes me to go for my dreams, big or small. My mother blessed me with a name of purpose and meaning. In Hebrew translation, Keren means “Horn of Beauty” and Kezia means “Fragrance.” The biblical retelling of Keren-happuch, depicts a young and beautiful woman who would bless others with her cosmetic box. As a young girl, I acknowledged my purpose, goals and dreams and knew that beauty would be in my career path. I give my mother credit for motivating me and encouraging me to launch my beauty brand, Keren Kezia Beauty. Shoutout to you mama, you are greatly appreciated and loved.
