We had the good fortune of connecting with Kerry M. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kerry, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Over the years balance have changed in so many ways for me. Trying to find the right balance when you choose to work, complete your degree, being a mom, and still trying to find time for yourself . Self care is just as important for our physical and mental health. It can be overwhelming if you don’t balance your time.

I didn’t always practice balancing my time. I use to think I can do everything . As if I didn’t have enough going on I decided to continue my education for another Degree. I took classes before work, after work , & on my lunch break. I was driving my family and my supervisor crazy at this point. I figured as long as I kept my weekends free things will work themselves out. I was determined to finish what I started .

I was later in a car accident , found out I was pregnant, and Covid just arrived (2020). The whole world was on edge . Even than I continued to go to work and class until my last trimester. I gave birth to a healthy baby boy ! I took online classes 3 weeks post delivery. I later became overwhelmed and forced myself to take a break 3 months later . I’m not sure what I was thinking doing all of that with a newborn but I realized it wasn’t healthy. I had to reevaluate myself because I needed to slow down.

Two years later just to find myself falling off that balance bar again when I started my business. You would have thought I learned my lesson from before but, I only became the carpenter I never knew I was. It was not easy I did have a few late nights that turned into 36 hours of zombie days with an hour nap. Ripping out carpets , laying floors down, painting, & working. Thankfully this time it was for a short period of time. I had a goal in mind and I was willing to make the short term sacrifice for long term results.

I have since been on normal day to day activities which I love and I appreciate time more than ever before. Balance is everything! Otherwise, it becomes overwhelming as you can see !

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started a facial beauty lounge to help others reach and maintain clear skin. Acne can last for a long time , with the right skincare , guidance, and treatment it makes all the difference. Here at K’phor we don’t just focus on skin care, we also focus on non invasive body shaping such as wood therapy to maintain a healthy regime all around. We love to look and feel good as a whole ! K’phor Beauty Body is here for it , I love what I do. Clients enjoy coming to our location because they see results and they enjoy the calm atmosphere, when they come in , it’s there well deserved self care time ! I am most proud of myself because I really put in the work and I give the same dedication to my clients as I do with everything else . Helping you get the clear healthy skin you desire. You are in good hands at K’phor Beauty Body .

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love Miami especially the beach and the palm trees. The city view is beautiful in the day and night . In the daytime you almost don’t want to go to work it’s just so relaxing to sit by the ocean. But at night the city lights glistening over the ocean and watching the waves is amazing I like to try different restaurants but one of my favorites at the moment is Santorini by Georgios in Miami Beach they have good food & drinks. A nice hang out spot is the Urban, it’s in downtown Miami ! live DJ , good vibes, and good time. Things you must do in Miami is rent a jet ski, Check out Frost museum, Schnelby Winery, and Strawberry field.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My inspiration comes from just life and my children. Shout out to my kids they are my #1 because they keep me motivated and driven. Shout out to my family who has always stuck by my side a big heart goes to them for their support. My close friends because they are like my cheerleaders and they are very honest with me (sometimes a little to honest). Not everyone has that so I appreciate the honesty , support, and love that I get from them.

I started in the beauty industry, moved on to the health care field , and now I’m here tackling both I would eventually like to transition into a med spa or something more just stay tuned to find out.

The medical field has taught me a lot ! Working amongst prestige doctors forced me to pay deeper attention to details, accuracy, research, understanding of different situations, people, more empathy, and a different appreciation of life.

Shout out to my previous medical team before the ER ! Dr. Taalibah Ahmed MD she is brilliant ! Dr Veronica Alvarez MD very compassionate! And Sharone Washington RN BSN. I know I drove you crazy with my lunch time classes ! But you ladies inspired me in different ways and helped shape my professional career without realizing. I love to see women in power ! Can’t forget the group of ladies in the OB/Gyn department . You know who you are !
