We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevin Burtram and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kevin, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I believe that risk is essential to the act of creation. You don’t know how things will be received, you don’t know how they will turn out, you don’t know how long it will take or how much it will take from you. I started chasing music in earnest (full-time) in the year 2020! I had no idea what it would cost – if I knew what lay ahead, I can’t say I would have had the stomach for it. The events of the last year have solidified my belief, that art is necessary to this world, to shape culture and help us all face uncertainty. Cracking the mystery of calling, is a life long pursuit. The obstacles that accumulate along the way and the creativity it takes to get through them – all add to the richness of the pursuit itself.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
A Lifelong Pursuit of Joyful Noise in Communion with Others – this is why I was put on this earth. I take a DIY approach to making music, lyrics and noise. I always write with an audience in mind and try to stretch the boundaries of pop music. Taking elements that a listener would find familiar then manipulating it into something they have never heard. I love to work with other artist. The most I have learned along my journey has been from other musicians who have been generous with their time and creativity. I hope to do that in my own business. Teach others how to do what I do. I am completely self taught and approach music production as an artist . It took a lot of time, energy and obsession to develop the hard skills – but due to technology – if you have an ear, something to say and know a few chords you can shape culture.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in the city of Richmond Virginia – This city is amazing. I would take them on a tour of all my favorite graffiti murals, down to Belle Island, right on the James River and then to Marcus Davis Peter Square to enjoy the city in all its beauty.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to my wife, Afshaan – consummate sounding board, patient partner and encourager & chief along this wooly road.
