We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevin Wallen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kevin, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from Kingston, Jamaica. My mother went away when I was three months old. I met my dad when I was 35 I grew up with a group of women my grandmother, and heard it. My aunts who were children themselves did not know how to take care of Curious, growing young man, so conversations became beatings, which then led me to silence, as well as dependent on myself. I hated how I was treated as a child and as a result has been a good deal of my life try not to do to others what was done to me

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve always wanted to do something special. I always felt it in my bone that I wanted to do something that not only made my life great but made a difference in the lives of others. I first started out speaking about my own story and my struggle is coming up then I realized that my speaking about it was my desperate cry to fix what I felt was wrong with my childhood, I went through a series of workshops counseling sessions time spent with mentors this, trying to get a deeper understanding of my insecurities, and the struggles that I had within myself Those courses that I met a man by the name of Courtney Kazembe, who took me deeper into the work of self discovery, which is what truly sparked my desire to dive deep into personal growth and development. My relationship with famed boxer, Rubin hurricane Carter help me a lot in the side and what is that I wanted to do I wanted to teach forgiveness and I thought he was a great example of it each time I would ask him for someone that spent all these years in prison for a crime you didn’t commit How come, you’re not better and his response to me was bitterness contaminates the vessel that contains it, which further drove me to want to take a look at the things that I was angry at which essentially led me to helping others to go on the journey to take a look at the things that drive them The bid to bring about healing

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My lifestyle is simply and exciting in its own way so if someone was to visit, I would want to take them on a journey through what it is that I do on a daily I wake up 4:30 AM each morning and consuming teas juices, reading, listening, meditating, and then go for a run in the mountains often times visiting a river I came through the bush, gives me a great sense of peace and serenity. The blue mountains in Jamaica is one of my favorite places to be along the trail to get to the blue mountain. There are many unique spots caffe blue in Irish town. It’s caffe also in Irish town a great place to stay for a night or two a weekend Ruff jam bed-and-breakfast, which is all sort of surrounded by great hiking trails and beautiful, lush greenery. Top it off we would go to the Kingston dub club which happens on a Sunday night in Jacksonville also in the mountains and of course beach

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
