We had the good fortune of connecting with Ki Bonilla and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ki, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
Brainstorming sessions. I’d select a friend or two (entrepreneurs) to sit with me on a Saturday at an office or even at a dining table and just talk. Talk about our ideas and how we can accomplish them. We’d each talk about our wildest dreams and everyone would offer their resources and tips. We’d call each other out on our excuses but also encourage one another to put things in writing and to push forward. It is the best 2-3 hours an entrepreneur can spend and it also brings you and your friends closer together. When ever you all decide to meet again, you bring out the old notes and talk about what you’ve accomplished. It’s an amazing feeling. My best brainstorming sessions to this day are with my sister, her husband and my closest colleague Jay.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Party life pop has always been known for the amazing customer service we provide. We offer event planning services, event rental items, balloon decor and even launched a balloon kit this year. I want everyone to know that it is a team effort. Although I run the day-to-day work, I always need help from family, friends, paid staff, contractors etc. It has not been an easy ride at all. Just when we finally started to see a steady income, we were hit with Covid and boy is it HARD to be in the event industry now! I know that our creativity keeps us alive, being engaged on social media and coming up with new ideas. The biggest lesson to date would be to roll with the punches. Never give up!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh, I love this! If my besties were visiting I would take them to dinner at a lively place like Myn Tu, after dinner we would slip into something comfortable and go to a bar like SHOTS in Wynwood were there is always great music and inexpensive drinks. Honestly, I love love the day vibes so if it’s a beautiful Saturday morning, I’d start with brunch at Honey uninhibited. Then I’d head to a day club like Nikki beach because its a Miami staple! If I want something more trendy then I’ll take them to strawberry moon. We’ll probably get some great pics in the design district and then head home because I love a great kick back with some games. Quality time to talk about our lives of course!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Wow! So many people of course. My grandmother was such a strong person, she never made excuses and refused to depend on anyone (she always inspired me.) The father of my child has always motivated me and encouraged me to be the best me and also allowed me so much room to explore and find myself. My family is super supportive (they are super sick of me always asking for help with the business) but they are always there 😂. Ultimately, I believe my education played a big role in who I am today as well. Getting a Masters degree in Adult Education has taught me how to work with people and how to lead people.
