We had the good fortune of connecting with Kianne Hutchinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kianne, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
Do not stop. Whether it be experimenting with new styles, creating for yourself or, in the face of discouragement, deciding to do one more thing; being able to see the hints that you are still on the path you should be on and keep on going.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My business, KiannePatrice photo.art.design, is about adding a contemporary twist to the traditional. From bold abstracts to black and white photo-based pieces, it’s always so exciting to see a space transformed by wall art. Working digitally is a really important asset because it allows collaboration with anyone; if I get the dimensions, a wall wrap mural can be installed anywhere! And there is something so fulfilling about collaborating in that way, forming short-term project-oriented mini art teams.

I’ve always had an affinity to art. From being thrilled to see the developed images from the little film camera I got as a child to experimenting with different artistic styles and photography in my adult life, regardless of what else I was doing, “the creative” was always a part of me. I remember being made redundant from my nine-to-five job and deciding to take the plunge full time. “If not now, when?” was my thinking. The importance of faith and knowing that I was on the right path became critical. There were times that I remember asking, with tears in my eyes…what am I doing?? But then something ALWAYS happened to encourage me and remind me that I am where I should be…on the artistic path. Things I’m pretty happy about include having been selected for a business grant, being featured in overseas magazines, exciting commissions, joining the Black Artists + Designers Guild, and work included in Design Miami 2021 Collector’s Lounge. These are all nuggets that say to me “keep going”.

I’ve met some incredible people along the way and look forward to where the journey takes me!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hmmm that’s a tough one. I think I would have to say the Design District…there are so many things to do and see! The Museum of Graffiti (do one of the spray painting classes!), a tour of the Wynwood Walls, visits to the Perez Art Museum Miami and the Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science with food stops from the many options along the way!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
God, family, friends, friends who have become family, and my art and photo network (in person and on social media).
