Hi Kiley and Shelby, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The most important factor behind the success of Wandering Words Bookstore is the deep connection it fosters with the book-loving community. By curating a selection that resonates with readers, creating a welcoming and engaging pop-up experience, and actively participating in local markets and events, the bookstore has built a loyal customer base. Additionally, our social media showcases the brand’s personality and the connection with readers has been crucial in driving both online and in-person sales. The combination of passion, adaptability, and strong customer relationships has been key to its rapid growth.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Wandering Words Bookstore is more than just a bookstore—it’s a mobile literary experience designed to bring books directly to the community in a unique and personal way. Unlike traditional bookstores, we pop up at local markets, private events, and special gatherings, creating an immersive and convenient shopping experience for book lovers of all kinds. We also have an online store and are working toward opening a permanent storefront in the future.
What makes us different is our personal touch and curated selection. We take the time to handpick books that resonate with our customers, from bestsellers to hidden gems, and we love giving recommendations that feel tailored to each reader.

We are incredibly proud of how quickly our business has grown. Since launching in mid-2024, we’ve gained a loyal customer base, built strong relationships with other small businesses, and are steadily moving toward opening our storefront. Seeing people light up when they discover a new book at our pop-ups, having customers return and tell us how much they loved our recommendations—those are the moments that make this all worth it!
Looking ahead, we’re excited to expand our reach, host more literary events, and eventually have a physical space where book lovers can gather and connect.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We couldn’t have built Wandering Words Bookstore without the unwavering support of our husbands. From the very beginning, they’ve been our biggest cheerleaders—whether it’s helping with logistics, watching the kids while we run events, or encouraging us to chase this dream even when it felt risky. Their support has allowed us to fully invest in this business while still being present for our families. We’re incredibly grateful for their love, patience, and belief in what we’re building.
