We had the good fortune of connecting with Kim Campbell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kim, what do you want people to remember about you?
I would like my legacy to be of one that empowered and supported women of all walks of life. I want people to remember me as one who always uplifted and encouraged others. A person who used her own mistakes as ways to help others do better. When not only gave sound advice, but provided strategies to help people become better versions of themselves.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Professionally I am an HR Professional. Human Resources was not what I attended school for when going for my Bachelors, however I did get my MBA in Human Resource Management. I was working in higher education and the university paid 90% towards degrees for us. I initially wasn’t interested, but as I worked and formed relationships with my students, I realized I am a people person that loves to serve. Not only did I love to serve but I was also very strategic. A mentor asked if I had ever thought about being in HR, and the rest is history. What sets me a part in my industry is that I understand the importance of providing employees with resources, being supportive, and holding them accountable makes them an overall well rounded employee. We have to inspect our expectations before we can expect greatness.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would start with a welcome dinner at one of my famous restaurants. Then make sure their accommodations were nice and let her rest up. The next day we would have a nice breakfast. Then day one would be museum day, because there’s a lot of history in DC. We would end the day with a nice dinner. Day two would be a winery day. Where I live has an abundance of wineries. Day three would be a Spa Day full of relaxation. Day four we would be all about shopping! Day five, the last day would be relaxing at my house.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I would not be here without him. It is because of my relationship with him that I am able to show love, provide love, and understand the purpose of my life.
