We had the good fortune of connecting with King Slik and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi King, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
To be honest, when I thought of BUILDHouse I wanted it to live true to its name. I wanted it to build artists by spreading how I had to, meeting people that I didn’t grow up around or already know. I always felt like everybody has a lane when it comes to their craft, no matter what you do. So I made a way for people like us, the different ones. The penguins. That’s why BUILD stands for Being Us Is Living Different.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I make elevator music. Not actually, but what I’m saying is I make music that takes you up with it. It’s unique to me and I make it because I personally like to listen to it. That’s what sets me apart from others but it didn’t come without challenges. If you dare to be different you got to accept what comes with that type of life. The only way to overcome that, though, is just staying true to you. That’s one of the biggest lessons I learned. You got to get your inspiration from your own potential, shout out to Russ, haha. If the world gets one thing from me I want it to be that.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I don’t know I’m not big on going out too many places, haha. I like to chill and play the game. But, if I had a friend visiting for a week and they wanted to pop out we got to hit the strip club. Guaranteed. Hit some dispensaries, probably just go to the beach and eat something regular. I don’t know I’m not good at stuff like that, ha.
