We had the good fortune of connecting with Kiona Reese and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kiona, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I began to take a hard look at my own health and the trajectory of my life as a 26 year old, and I knew that I needed to make a change. Once I finally got out of my own way and took control over my health, my passion for helping others grew. I’ve always wanted to serve the community around me which probably comes from the actor in me, but with fitness I knew I could do it in a more scaleable and impactful way. I knew there were women out there that felt just as lost and helpless as me who needed a radical change in their lives so I just went for. I fearlessly dove head first into creating what will soon be my own wellness empire, and the women I have beside me fire me up everyday.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started my journey as a creative as a musical theater performer. I’ve had countless amazing opportunities to travel the world and sing to unimaginable audience sizes. Don’t get me wrong though that part of my life isn’t over, it’s still going and it’s the vehicle that allowed me to become the confident CEO I am today. While out on a contract, Covid 19 changed the world therefore impacting both my mental and physical health. I knew that I needed to make a change and take my power back so I jumped in, failures, laughs, busies and all. I just jumped. A little of a year later here I am. I am Kiona, the certified badass fitness coach, you’ve been looking for. Why?! Because not only do I have the knowledge but I’ve been through it all before. I’m not one of those coaches who have never struggled with what you’re most likely going though. I’ve been the girl crying on the floor because the Hollister jeans that everyone else wore didn’t fit. I’ve been the girl that skipped meals and swore by the Taco Bell diet all throughout high school. I’ve been both the binge eater and drinker to cope with my own anxieties. I decided to take my power back, and in a year I lost 85 lbs, gained confidence I never knew was possible, and now I’m here to help every women reading this take your own power back and rule your kingdom though your own wellness journey.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
OMG! Don’t we all wish we could be on a forever long Miami vacay. I know it do! For starters, donuts are a must at The Salty Donut. If you’re into swanky cocktails and a cool view, in other words you’re just as bougie as me, then Sugar in Brickell for cocktails is a must. Lastly, my favorite little tucked away dinner spot is Delores, but you can call me Lolita, just take my word and go. Oooh if you’re looking for a little booty shaking you’d be crazy not to go explore Wynwood on a Saturday night.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutouts are my favorite part of any interview, because so little do people actually get the credit they deserve for helping you achieve your dreams. First and foremost, my parents who have unabashedly allowed me to go after any dream in this world I could have ever imagined. When I began my acting career they were front row at every show, and now that support is pouring over into fitness and I couldn’t be more lucky to have them on my team. Secondly, my brother, Corey Reese, who is also a creative, he’s a music producer and quite frankly he’s my biggest hype man. I truly believe that you should have confidence in yourself and capabilities, but my brother always pushes me to go a step further and out dream my expectations and limitations. Finally, but most certainly not least, my incredible friend, business partner, and coach, life coach extraordinaire, Nicole Baker. Nicole has truly held my hand through laying the framework to my business, handled all of my tech meltdowns, challenged my limiting believes without remorse, and most importantly been a positive force for change and massive action in my life.
