We had the good fortune of connecting with Kirsi Gentile and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kirsi, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to start a business that we could do together as a family. Our 2 youngest children are ages Avarose 9 & Danilo 7, or oldest Jaylin 22 and I wanted to do something fun and creative that they can be a part of. Back in 2021, I was at my sister’s house celebrating my niece Courtney’s birthday. My sister had rented a Happy Birthday yard sign for my niece. It was my first time seeing these fun and colorful signs, and i thought how fun and creative. I asked my sister how she went about renting these and she told me that is through a sign rental company that rents them $125- $200 for 24hrs, they customize the signs based on your request and theme. They install early in the morning for a wake-up surprise and then pick them up at night. The kids loved it, and it was a showstopper for the neighborhood, cars driving by would hunk their horns and scream Happy Birthday. The pictures came out amazing. I was immediately sold, I wanted to learn more. The next day I went on google to learn more and was able to find some youtube videos and so I learned these signs have become so popular during covid due to social distancing and families not being able to get together for a birthday celebration so instead, they would celebrate on the yard with the birthday signs. I then found a facebook group on yard cards that connected me to all the yard card business owners and it was a support group that shared all about the yard card business, the vendors, how to install, how to market to clients and how to make a profitable business. And from there on, I binged on all the information i can find and ran with it. I told my husband Anthony that we were going to be in the yard card rental business, and he thought I was crazy but supported me. within 2-3 months I had our business up and running.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an entrepreneur at heart, I am always thinking of creative ideas and ways to bring additional income to our family. I also have a mobile Notary business KMG Notary Services LLC that I run from home. So trying to juggle multiple businesses, home life has been a big challenge. But I love the hustle, I love learning and implementing new strategies. I love showing my kids, how to make your dreams into reality. I remember when I had my received my inventory and I was able to start practicing installing the signs, we lived in danbury, CT and it was early summer when i launched our business. So, I had to learn, how the signs would withstand all kinds of weather. Every week I would install a new sign on our front yard, it was practice for me since I had no experience sticking anything to the ground. It was also promotion for our neighborhood, lol that’s how we got our first booking. I want our kids to understand that the dream is Free but to build that dream takes commitment, hard work, and dedication.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to give a shout out to the facebook groups yard card community. I would’ve never been able to start this business without them sharing all the tips and tricks and answering of my questions.
