We had the good fortune of connecting with Krisiz Jay and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Krisiz, can you tell us about a book that has had a meaningful impact on you?
One book that impacted me that I still have to re-read every now and again is a book called “Atomic Habits” by James Clear. Through that book I learned to focus on the key ideas of making good habits stick through ensuring that they are obvious, easy, attractive and satisfying to do. It sounds like a basic concept but through repeatedly revisiting these principles throughout the book, they become very easy to apply. The chapters also help you to flip these principles on their head to shake bad habits.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from other creatives and artists? I don’t think much separates me but the willingness to listen and take heed when someone before me has something to say. I know everyone has their own opinions about what they should do career wise but if someone has been there and done that as they say then you should listen. It may help you get a better perspective of what you’re doing.
Was getting here easy? Absolutely not in the slightest bit easy. It was definitely difficult. Still is in someways. I got through those hard times by taking a step back from my own self. More times than not I will get in the way of me and stop myself from doing what I truly believe is best. It’s a security issue and I’ve learned to let it go. Without risk there is no reward in life. And you have to be willing to sacrifice for what you want.
What I want the world to know about my brand is that it’s one size fits all. It’s not just for a specific person or people. My stories that I tell are for the people.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Alright for a week trip to Memphis we have a couple spots to hit. First to eat we have to go to Another Broken Egg for brunch. Great spot great food. Next for lunch light or heavy Blues City cafe’. Drinks I say we hit Art Bar at Crosstown. Fun of course we can hit Beale Street with ease. Plenty to do there.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
