We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristen Diaz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristen, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Work-life balance I believe is something that can’t be perfected. You can always have better balance by striving to have better days than mostly bad, burnout days. The key I learned is to constantly tweak my schedule to allow more time to rest, more time to explore new ideas and making sure the habits that keep me from burning out stay permanently front of mind. By recognizing the signs of burnout faster and tweaking to adjust my schedule to accomodate space, I’ve become more balanced. I realized that as a business owner, my energy is currency. The more harmony I find in making space for rest and adjusting my schedule if my energy is low, the more I’m combating burnout successfully while keeping my balance between work and my lifestyle.
What should our readers know about your business?
Once upon a time as a burnt-out marketing account executive, I didn’t believe work-life balance was possible. My anxiety was through the roof and my “personal life” was practically nonexistent.
Then I started my own business and created a system that worked for my personal vision. I created a day-to-day schedule that fit ideally with my personality and “magic hours.” I developed habits and boundaries that protected my mind and honored my body. This ended up leading to a remote, travel-friendly lifestyle that truly feeds my soul.
I realized that finding true work-life balance wasn’t only possible. It’s life-changing.
Vow + Vast began as a virtual assistant business dedicated to helping entrepreneurs get back more time. But as I served more and more clients, I discovered that the majority of my clients were struggling with the same overwhelm and burnout I had in my 9-5. Virtual assistance alone simply wasn’t enough to help entrepreneurs meet their big, bold goals on time and have the healthy work-life balance they crave.
With each new client, I found myself stepping into a different kind of role: one that straddled the line between VA, productivity coach, and project manager. The V+V Method was born — and I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that now I’m doing exactly what I was born to do.
Today I help coaches, photographers, marketers, copywriters, and other service-based boss babes and course creators get their shiz together so they can have better peace of mind in their day-to-day life.
I won’t sit here and pretend you’ll feel perfectly balanced all the time. But with the right support, you can get pretty damn close.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
With my lifestyle, I’m always the friend that’s asking not the other way around! Each time I come back to Tampa things have changed so much. I recommend grabbing a bite at 3DotDash, Bella’s Italian and Farmacy. Visit the Tampa Museum of Modern Art, Ybor City for the thrifting, and visit St Petersburg for The Dali!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Greg McKeown’s Essentialism changed the game for me! It made me realize the necessary changes I needed to make and continue to make in my day-to-day decision-making in order to serve my clients successfully but also serve myself successfully. I highly recommend that every business owner reads Essentialism.
