We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristen Piquion and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristen, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came up with the idea for my business in 2016. I felt like I could never really truly focus when I was at work, I would always feel like something was missing and that I wanted more. I finally took a leap of faith and started my first business Bright Whites once I finished Dental Assisting School at Concorde Career College. I started off pretty small with teeth whitening kits, lip gloss and black activated charcoal. Everything started off pretty smooth with support from family and friends and then it later grew to a larger audience. I knew I wanted more so when I was laid off due to Covid 19 in March 2020 I launched my baby Kemani Cosmetic Care LLC where I began making body soap, feminine products , feminine soap, body scrubs, body butters, men soap, beard cream and much more.
What should our readers know about your business?
The idea of my business is to provide Luxury Self Care while using quality products. The goal is to make you love the skin you are in along your skin journey. My business is like no other, I provide each customer with a personal experience and I try to speak to each of them directly to let them know how much I truly appreciate their support because without them I wouldn’t have a successful business.
I am super excited about the future for KCC I see a lot of new customers, a lot more reviews, a lot more content, new products, sales, giveaways and much more.
I got where I am today by planning and executing. I had a vision and I know exactly what I wanted i just didn’t know where to start, so I started by going on YouTube and a simple google search on how to make certain products. I faced challenges at first because I was still learning products and ingredients and I was also nervous because I wasn’t sure if anyone would actually purchase or be interested in any of my products. However, I stepped out on faith and I started posting on Facebook & Instagram and within my first three months of business I had already made $3,000. I invested in some of the money I made & started purchasing more products. I later started doing pop up shops at local events so that i can get more exposure.
Being an entrepreneur has its challenges some days you have 1 customer, some days you have no customers and other days you have 20 or more but the goal is to never give up and stay consistent. I learned even with 0 likes keep posting and keep believing in your business delayed doesn’t mean denied.
I want the world to know this isn’t the last time you will see me. My small business will be a big business, I will be successful in 2024 and I can’t wait. It took me getting laid off from the
pandemic to wake me up & I’m fully woke now. Now I know there was a reason those particular jobs never worked out for me & that’s because I wasn’t walking in my purpose. God will make you uncomfortable & put you in situations to push you and you’ll never understand why certain situations happened until you’re looking at the bigger picture right in front of you. The bigger picture is KCC.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When visiting Miami the most popular and known place to tourist is South Beach or Miami Beach. I would recommend visiting Wynwood Area there is alot of food, clubs and activities to do in the area and it’s pretty much a vibe anyone would have fun and enjoy theirselves. Some of my personal favorite places are Rickey’s Sports Bar, Tootsies, Shots, Grails, Flanagans , The Office, Gfive, Benihanas, Longhorn, Mastros just to name a few.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I couldn’t be where I am today without the support of those who I love the most their support never goes unnoticed from the encouraging words, the ideas, the shares/likes, and for simply lending a hand anytime and wherever I fall short. From Day 1 my bestfriend Joequisha, my sister Ieshia and my Fiance Lavoris have pushed me and motivated me even when I wanted to give up they made sure I got to the finish line each time, I thank god I have them in my life.
