We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristin Barton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristin, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Prior to having my second child, I owned and operated a successful business (swim school) for approximately 7 years. Since then, my work-life balance has changed dramatically with two busy kiddos and assisting my talented husband with his real estate development company – hence leading to starting Palm Breeze Designs. Time management and organization is key to giving my best in work and at home with family.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Having the opportunity to shadow my husband with his house renovation projects over the years has given me a hands on approach to not only learning the industry but allowing me to incorporate my own creative designs. It was a tough learning curve during a very busy few years yet invaluable the information absorbed. The trick is running with your own style with a cost effective budget, but also understanding the history of architecture and design while keeping up with today’s trends. My design style from structural to aesthetics is a warm coastal look that is still modern & minimalist. Living in Boca Raton, my surroundings definitely influence my design as I strive to deliver a tropical and polished presentation that is unique to each project I take on. I think the true skill I possess that sets me apart, is creating a stunning design space that is budget friendly to provide an ambience any client would be proud of.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My interior design career really began to take off after decorating a coastal Airbnb, a perfect beach house for families or couples. In the Guest Guide, we provide a the best of everything Boca and the greater area offers. If visiting, we first recommend to get a few beach days in at the beautiful Spanish River Beach & snorkeling at tropical Red Reef Beach. For shopping and great food, we highly recommend Calaveras Cantina & Sugar Boo Co in Mizner Park, as well as True Food at Boca Town Center Mall. For a fun social scene, visit downtown Boca Louie Bossie & Royal Palm Place or take a short trip to Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach. Should the rain keep you indoors, definitely explore the Boca Raton Art Museum or sip & play at the Delray Beach Market. Lastly, for kid friendly fun, visit Gumbo Limbo Sea Turtle Conservation, take a surf lesson just south near Deerfield or ride go carts at Boomers. For day trips to West Palm or Miami, hop on the Briteline Train for a great commute experience. There’s something for everyone!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
In addition to having a strong work ethic, my parents always supported my creative thinking and artistic abilities growing up. These qualities allowed me to jump start a swimwear line, build my own swim school, dabble in photography and now root myself in interior design through Palm Breeze Designs where I can also assist my husband with his renovation projects. I’m thankful to my husband for allowing me the opportunity to work alongside of him over the years and open my eyes to a passion in interior design.
