We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristin Durfee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristin, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
How long it can take! The process from starting writing a book to publication can take several years. Even after a contract is signed and you know a publisher is going to release a book, it’s usually still a 12-18 month process to complete editing, cover design, and get it set for release.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being a published author is a long (and often humbling) endeavor. It’s more than just having a good idea, expanding that out to fill some 80,000 words, polishing, editing, and querying to agents and publishers takes a lot of dedication and thick skin. But anytime a reader comes up to me or connects online to say something I wrote was meaningful to them, makes it all worth it. I remember as a kid realizing there was a person behind all my favorite books and ever since I wanted to create that sense of joy and wonder I experienced for someone else.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I quite literally have only run through Miami, during a Ragnar Relay race years ago, so I have to admit to not knowing too much about the city, but I will give an answer that is a true statement no matter where I go. I love to visit museums, whether focusing on art or history. I also love to check out new vegetarian restaurants and love exploring a new city by finding a good trail to run on. I am also a sucker for a good ghost tour!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Racquel Henry at Writer’s Atelier. She has developed an amazing community (in person and on-line) of supportive writer’s and creators.
