We had the good fortune of connecting with Krystal Goldsby and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Krystal, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued art because art always came back to me no matter what I did or how much I strayed away from it. Since I was a kid I always use to love sketching and painting but it was always more of a hobby. Ya I was good at it but I didn’t really take any steps to push that talent and in my family sports had a big influence at that time. So it would be years going by that I wouldn’t even pick up a pencil to draw or a paint brush unless I had a art class or something. But, even with playing basketball for as long as I did I was never really passionate about it. To be honest I was never really passionate about anything else I did the way that I was about art. So ya like I said no matter how much I tried to run from it, it just kept finding its way back. Fast forward to more recent years I would get people to want me to draw little things for them here and there. From that it went to painting small things and from there I thought ok Obviously this is something I have a different love for and at this point I’m confident that I’m past good it so instead of running from it why not use it and find a way to make a profit from it at the same time. From there DripLyfe was born.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me and my art apart from most people around my age doing what I’m doing is the fact that I don’t follow the hype I don’t follow the wave. From the start of this I told myself yes I have a business where I want to cater to my customers but there’s a way to have some authenticity behind what you do and I really pride myself on that not even with just art. It might sound cliche but I really got to where I am by not giving up myself. This journey I’ve been on with DripLyfe definitely has not been a easy one. When I first started DripLyfe was originally going to be a hand painted clothing brand. But a lot of things come into play with that one of the main things being production & quality. I was excited and just jumped out there and didn’t really do real research on products and different mediums that can be used to paint on fabric so with that I spent all this money on products from vendors to paint on and ended up painting a bunch of pieces that couldn’t be worn. Again just rushing and excited I skipped important steps in my process and in turn the quality of my clothes was not what I expected. It really made me kind of shut down all together with the whole business because that’s when the doubt started to come into play and I was really just asking myself like is this something you can really do? I had set that bar so high for myself and to not hit that mark or even come close to it really had me second guessing myself. Another thing as i mentioned was production. I had to be realistic. What if there comes to a point where the business starts to grow and I had to realize that I couldn’t carry that load alone. So I just took a step back and for a while DripLyfe was on a standstill like I had no direction just a name. Back at square one all over again. But along the way I learned thats just apart of the game just like with anything else in life you gotta just roll with it. So I went back and really took my time to map out and plan where I wanted to see my business and what industry I was going to go into. The thing is I didn’t really want Driplyfe to be known for one thing. I like to call myself a artistic creator and and to me that’s just a person who can create and isn’t not tied to a specific lane. I have a love for so many things and art can be incorporated into almost anything so I wanted to kind of make that bridge. I Drip “Lyfe” to anything I touch and that’s why I wanted that to be my business name. I want that to be my legacy well after I’m walking this Earth.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well of course anything by the beach to be honest you really just have to know the spots. One of my favorite lil’ hangout places to be overall I would have to say the Los Olas area. You can always find the best food like this spot that’s getting more and more popular called Casa Sensai, you can ride the gondola and get a small tour of the city and eat from the restaurant while you ride. It’s lit they bring the food right out to you from the restaurant to the boat and they always have the best spots for drinks almost everywhere in that area. They have a big park in the area too that sits right on the water, I actually found out about it because a family member of mine got married there a few years ago and I been going back ever since. I like to go there because you can see all the waterfront mansions like they’re literally across the water from you and it’s just motivation for me every time I go down there like this is how I want to wake up and live everyday. I think anybody who visits that part of town wouldn’t want to leave Florida

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Yes I definitely would like I send a huge shoutout to my biggest support system, my best friend, and the better half of me. She is one of the main reasons that I even had the confidence to try and pursue a business through art. She’s actually the one that got me to pick a pencil back up after years of having no involvement with art at all. I haven’t put my pencil down since then and she’s been there to support me every way possible I can’t even describe it in words really. She also has a beauty & cosmetics line as well self titled Lala J’zhane Beauty make sure y’all go check that out lol.
