We had the good fortune of connecting with Krystina Dowdell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Krystina, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Asking for help when it’s appropriate (and especially when it’s hard), and training — because I’d be a mess without it.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I got the idea for Miami Retreat in 2019 and we did one Retreat in 2020 before COVID hit. The lockdown gave me time to reflect on how we could best support our local community and celebrate our amazing wellness talent and small business here. I am a personal trainer so it is a very personal mission to me, since it was difficult to watch my close friends struggle with their business through a time when health was more important than ever. Our Retreats and Getaways include live music, flow fitness classes, pop-ups, and more. You can learn more and stay connected on our Instagram at @miamiretreat.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would probably do a beach day in North Miami Beach, check out Wynwood Walls, grab food at Riverside, and if they liked edm and/or nightlife take them to see a show at Story. I’m a personal trainer so I also love going to Muscle Beach and a few select dance classes around Miami and would probably bring them to those.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
So many people have encouraged or otherwise supported me to be where I am today. To choose one would discount the fact that it takes a community of individuals looking out for each other to be successful, whatever success means for you. Between family, friends, strangers-turned-friends online – each play an equally important role in how I got to be here today. As for books, there are too many to name here but one in particular that stands out would have to be Zero to One by Blake Masters and Peter Thiel.
