We had the good fortune of connecting with Krysty J and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Krysty, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Initially, I took an interest in photography just for fun and the artistry involved. As I became more serious about it and devoted more time to my new found hobby, I decided to officially create my photography business, Visual Urge.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being a perfectionist, I constantly struggled with being confident about my work especially since I would often find myself comparing my work to well-known professionals who had been doing photography for years. So I opened myself up to receive constructive criticism from people I had worked with and that really helped, especially since a lot of it was positive. Along with that, a friend of mine, who is also a photographer, hosted an event with a few other photographers and through that, I realized that my photos don’t need to resemble anyone else’s to be “good”; that’s what makes each photographer unique.

I’ve definitely learned that taking my time with each pose is okay in order to capture that great shot. Or being creative and willing to try new things is a good thing and that not everything has to be “done by the book”. These are lessons I truly found value in.

I look forward to seeing the opportunities that lie ahead not only for my business but for myself as an artist in the photographic world. There’s just so much to learn and explore!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely recommend getting breakfast at Sara’s Kitchen in North Palm Beach because their food is phenomenal! Hanging out at the beach (any one of them, really!) and visiting places like Rosemary Square in WPB or Miami Design District are really fun, too. Some of my personal favorites for dinner are El Rucon in West Palm Beach, Lester’s Diner in Pompano Beach and Rice Mediterranean Kitchen in Miami. There’s also a lot of good dessert shops but here’s a few: Kindness Batters in Lake Park (they have the some of the best macarons!), Sugar Milk Boba & Dessert Bar, Bahama Buck’s, and Sloan’s Ice Cream.

Some more activities that I think would be fun are catching a movie at the CMX Movie Theater Downtown at the Gardens and enjoying their deliciously buttery popcorn, visiting a few malls or local shops, or just going for a drive to explore! There’s outdoor activities like kayaking, paddle boarding horseback riding, and nature walks and you can do them all at Jonathan Dickinson State Park. And I can’t forget about Cars and Coffee in West Palm Beach!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would definitely have to give a huge thanks to my husband & family because they’ve all been really supportive of me. My dance photography ambassadors have also been amazing and it’s been such a great learning experience to work with such a variety of dancers!
