We had the good fortune of connecting with La’Kita Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi La’Kita, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I made the decision to start my own company to have more impact. During my previous corporate role, I would often tell my mentor about the big changes I wanted to make at our current organization, and how we needed to think differently about employee experience and culture. One day, she explained to me that the organization was already on their path, and if I wanted to have a bigger impact I would need to go to a place where they were open to change.

I decided right then that instead of going somewhere else, I would leave the organization and start my own business focused on working with companies as they grew to create workplaces that were innovative and impactful by prioritizing their systems and culture. In a couple of months CoCreate Work will be 5 years old. And the decision to launch this company has been one of the best decisions I have made – for myself, our team, and for our clients.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Our vision and impact are something we take great pride in. At CoCreate Work our purpose is to build the future of transformational work. We know that work changes people lives, and we keep that center in all of the work that we do.

Our company has helped clients grow from teams of a few people to 40+ employees, with the systems and structures to support them. We have helped clients increase their earnings, get acquired, and bring on great business partners – all while leading with culture and employee experience. We also partner with large organizations and have helped them bring systems level change and transformation to increase inclusion, belonging, and effectiveness.

In the fall of 2020, at the height of the pandemic, I was also diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). With this diagnosis, I had to more fully lean into the nature and practices that go along with sustainability within an organization. As a company, we updated how we worked and increased our focus on well-being by implementing a 4-day workweek and helping our clients build more flexibility into how they worked. We found that so many leaders are experiencing burnout and challenges with their mental health. As a result, we are more committed than ever to building not only culture-first workplaces but also companies that support the well-being of every single employee – including the leader.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people who have helped me in my journey as an entrepreneur and I want to say a special thank you to anyone who has inspired, mentored, or given me opportunities. My special shoutout will go to my first business mentor and friend Jadah Sellner who really helped me understand the value of my experience and expertise and how to bring that forth in my partnership with others.
