We had the good fortune of connecting with Lanie “Lux” Ferrans and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lanie “Lux”, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk. Risks are exciting. Taking risks in business is the only way to move forward or even succeed when speaking from a “creative” business perspective. Without taking risk in the arts field, you won’t get far. And I think this is true even when applied to other forms ov business. For us, we had to dive all in. It was all or nothing. I mean, I could alway go back and get a “real” job but for right now while I got the guts to do it. DO IT. Risk taking within the established business is important and exciting as well. Will people like this design? I’ve never seen this before, is it gonna bomb? Risk is all apart of business and without taking risks you might as well be working for someone else, lining their pockets, punching that time clock, waiting for the weekend.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My work is my pride. Other than my family, Hialeah is my everything. I eat and sleep my jewelry. I got where I am today from pure hard work. I was a professional body piercer for 13 years before I started Hialeah in 2018. The knowledge and experience I gained from my career as a body piecer allowed me to make the beautiful body jewelry I make today. My perspective is what sets us apart. How I see the world. What I want to see in the world. What mark I want to leave on the world. All ov this goes into every single piece I make. Hialeah Fine Jewelry is my voice.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So, I’m still figuring out South Florida for myself but as a native Central Floridian these are my favorites….Love Life Cafe, Wynwood, Planta, South Beach, Bebito’s Cafe, get your hair done at IGK, La Carreta for some grub, The Deuce Bar for drinks, the list goes on on an depending on what part ov the city you’re in.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to GBH, Wendy O Williams ov The Plasmatics, Darby Crash ov The Germs, Cock Sparrer, Against Me and The Zounds. All the music that allowed space for me to be a creative. The bands that matched my perspective and didn’t let me feel alone. The kick drum on the “Gimme Fire” track is my heart beat and when I stop and think about who or what to dedicate anything to I always think about Punk Rock.
