We had the good fortune of connecting with LaTish Roach and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LaTish, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I saw a need in the area of kids fashion that was missing. I wanted to create a business where I could help promote small business designers, boutiques and brands as well as kid models. There are so many kids that want to model but don’t know where or how to start as well. Also, I believe in showcasing diversity on all levels and I knew this platform would be perfect. There are so many kids that’s interested in fashion shows and none were available. I wanted to create that space, make it creative, an experience and a place lifelong friendships could be made. Also, brands with very small budgets needed a space to get their designs showcased as well. The recognition, publicity, opportunities that have been given to any individual that have participated in our events have been huge. We have created a trusted and fun environment for kids to be who they are in the entertainment world. Learn from others and receive content in one space. We have started our own brand that will allow kids to feel empowered through fashion! The process has not been smooth and we still have a long way to go. But the path has been nothing but amazing and the growth has been mind blowing for us.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the owner of LS1 Entertainment. This is my first business I started back in 2008. We produce events for high profile athletes, entertainers, authors, models, brands and more. Sunni Dai Kids Fashion Week was my second business. I already had experience with kids and producing events from my first business. Therefore, I knew this business was needed and wouldn’t be hard to add to the portfolio. It was definitely not an easy journey. I did not know any kid brands at the time or even how to get them to trust me with their brands. I did my research and I went to a few shows and brands began to recognize me. They recognized Sunni Dai Kids Fashion Week before I could even talk about it. They had seen many kids in the industry post about us and had seen we had been publicized in major publications. One of the biggest lessons I learned along the way is to not work with people who dont understand the kid industry. Just because you offer a service does not mean the service will be great for my business. I lost a lot of money hiring people who did not help my brand. Another huge lesson I learned is the power of connections of like minded individuals. You can elevate your business so much by simply being a good human and connecting with another unintentionally; simply wanting nothing more than a great conversation. I would like the world to know that Sunni Dai Kids Fashion Week is for all kids of all different backgrounds, nationalities, and sizes with the love of fashion in their hearts. If you set your heart and mind on something do it and do it with authentic genuine love.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love being home! Thats my favorite place in the world :). However, I would say these are the places I would take them for a week long visit. Sunday: I would take them to Lion Safari, I absolutely love the drive thru safari. Also, the ability to feed the animals after the drive thru. They have some cool rides inside as well, along with a water park. This would be a full day of things to do. We would probably eat at home this day. Sundays are family day where we gather as a family to eat. Meal of choice would be Mango chicken breast, white rice, asparagus and avocados. Monday: I would take them to the beach. Weekdays its not crowded, so thats perfect for me. Oceanside is my favorite private beach to go too. We would eat at Benny’s afterwards. I absolutely love their fried green tomatoes. Tuesday: We would do Drive Shack. They have amazing food there and great way to play golf. They have different cool games you can play as well. For dinner we would probably grab World of Famous Eggrolls, the curry chicken eggrolls are amazing and strawberry cake. Wednesday: Pink Flamingo Stables. This is an amazing experience and very relaxing. We can grab a nice slice of pizza at PizzaRox Thursday: I am very big on working out so we would have to dedicate at least one day to the fun. I like Caloosa Park because it has so many different fields and trails to utilize. We would eat at Juice Berry afterwards love their smoothies. Friday: Art district. They have so many amazing artist that display their new art all around the district. Also , the food trucks are absolutely amazing. Great for shopping with small business as well as luxury brands. Saturday: Boat Day, grab a private small yacht for a few hours to reflect. Grab Prime 112 for dinner and to celebrate friendship!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My daughter Daila and head stylist Khaliah Clark. Daila was the one who inspired me to start the business. She started modeling at age 2 and was very limited to jobs due to her size. She was 2 but in a size 5, she’s pretty tall. She is the creative force behind the brand and is what keeps the business so colorful. When she turned 6 her creative energy kicked in a little more in the business, she wanted to design. She mapped out locations with me and created the themes for each event. She speaks to the other models during our social lives and have connected with all the brands. Khaliah Clark is a celebrity stylist and before the business came to life, I picked her brain about the fashion show world. She has attended and styled some of the top brands nationally and internationally. She encourages me daily to keep at the business as the fashion world is completely different from any of my other businesses. She jumps in all the time with the perfect encouragements and let me know when I need to take a break, relax, its gonna be ok, no worries I have it, lets go bigger and we did attitude.
