We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Laura, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
One of my favorite quotes is “Que sera, sera” which translates to “whatever will be, will be.” It’s a motto that I tend to live my life by. I’m not the type of person to worry or put my energy into things that are out of my control. I’ve learned over the years that worrying just creates unnecessary stress, and I truly believe that everything happens for a reason. Whatever is meant to be, will be. It might not be what I want or think is best for me in the moment, but I believe that everything we go through and experience is part of a bigger picture.
For me, this mindset and sense of peace comes from my relationship with God. However, aside from what your beliefs are, there is no sense in worrying about tomorrow. Enjoy today, trust that everything is going to work out for the best in your life and whatever will be, will be.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I actually did not start out in the marketing field at all. I went to Palm Beach Atlantic University and was an Elementary Education major. After college, I went on to teach kindergarten for two years at a public elementary school. While I love children, I decided that teaching in the classroom just wasn’t for me. I was constantly stressed and did not feel supported by the administration that I worked for. Although I grew up in the digital age of MySpace, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, etc., I was unaware that social media could become a career until after college.
After my two years of teaching, a family friend offered me a job as a marketing assistant for their business. I helped take product photos, learned the basics of managing their website, and managed and created content for their social media. After about a year and a half with them, I decided I was passionate about this career and wanted to venture out and find a new company with more growth opportunities.
These transitions weren’t easy for me, especially as a 22-year-old who had just spent the last 4 years in college just to end up in a profession that I wasn’t happy in. Thankfully, my family and friends were very supportive and ultimately just wanted me to find something I was passionate about and happy doing. After about a year of job searching (through the pandemic, nonetheless), I finally found Argon Agency and a new role as a content coordinator. I’ve learned so much about marketing, content creation, social media, and business management in general over the past 10 months here, and could not be happier than where I am in my career right now.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A weekend with me in Palm Beach would be filled with delicious food, fun, and sunshine! In the morning, we’d grab an iced latte and breakfast sandwich at Common Grounds in Boynton Beach. Then we’d head right across the street to enjoy the sunrise on the beach. During the day we’d head to Atlantic Ave in Delray Beach to explore the Delray Beach Market. We’d grab lunch at one of their amazing food vendors, play giant Jenga in the upstairs mezzanine, and top it off with ice cream from Bona Bona. At night, we’d head to Downtown West Palm Beach for dinner at Sassafras. We’d sit at the bar and enjoy a few handcrafted cocktails, order the fish of the day – crudo style, and of course their famous chicken + dumplings.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without a doubt, I have to give a shoutout to my boss, Logan Rae. Thanks to her, I’ve been able to grow into a new career that I am actually passionate about. When I started working for Argon Agency, I had minimal marketing experience under my belt. She supports and encourages all of her employees to further their education through online courses. She takes the time to teach us new skills and empowers us to take ownership of our roles. She wants work to be something that we enjoy and a place where we can grow, not to just be another job that we show up to just to make money and then go home. I truly feel blessed to have found her and this job opportunity.
