Hi Laura, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting my own business was a profoundly personal journey rooted in my passion for fashion and a commitment to promoting body positivity and inclusivity. As a midsize girl, I recognized the fashion industry’s limited options and often exclusive nature. This realization and my love for fashion drove me to start my own size-inclusive boutique.

I wanted to challenge the prevailing norms and convey that fashion is not restricted by size. Every woman, regardless of shape or size, deserves to feel confident, beautiful, and empowered in her clothing choices. This desire to break away from conventional standards and redefine the narrative around beauty and style inspired the establishment of my boutique.

The vision for my business goes beyond merely offering clothing; it’s about creating a space where women of all shapes and sizes can find stylish and trendy options that cater to their unique personalities. The motto “More than fashion” embodies our commitment to providing clothing and a platform for empowerment and self-expression.

Through my business, I aim to contribute to a positive shift in the fashion industry, fostering a culture of inclusivity and celebrating diversity. The joy of seeing women embrace their individuality and confidence while wearing our designs is the ultimate fulfillment of my entrepreneurial journey.

My thought behind starting this business was fueled by a desire to make a meaningful impact, challenge societal norms, and create a space where every woman feels seen, valued, and beautiful, regardless of size.

At Shop Laura Charles, we take pride in being a women-owned small online boutique based in the vibrant city of Miami. Our commitment to size inclusivity sets us apart, offering a range of stylish clothes from small to 3x. Our mission goes beyond fashion – it’s about empowering women of all shapes and sizes to feel confident, beautiful, and celebrated.

My journey in entrepreneurship was shaped by the invaluable mentorship of my mother, who runs her own business. I dove into the business world straight out of college, working alongside her and absorbing the lessons of resilience and determination. The decision to invest in my learning followed as I took e-commerce courses, delved into marketing, and learned the intricacies of running successful ad campaigns. The path hasn’t been easy, but every challenge has been a stepping stone to growth.

Currently pursuing an MBA, I am dedicated to continually improving my knowledge and skills. Education is a powerful tool for success in the ever-evolving landscape of online retail.

Running a business is hard work, especially in the initial years when investments often surpass revenue. It demands discipline, long hours, and a willingness to learn from resources and mistakes. One key lesson I’ve embraced is the importance of building a solid team. Recognizing that you can’t do it alone is crucial; hiring help and investing wisely in the business have been game-changers.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting Miami, I’d want to curate an unforgettable week that captures the essence of the city’s vibrancy and diversity. We’d kick off the adventure with a leisurely bottomless brunch at Mila, setting the tone for the week ahead. Bal Harbor would be our go-to for retail therapy, followed by happy hours at Yolo, Rosa Sky, or The Rooftop, embracing the lively atmosphere and stunning views.

For a touch of luxury and relaxation, we’d indulge in a spa day at Lapis Fontaine Bleau, sipping poolside cocktails to unwind. As the sun sets, Top Golf will offer a lively and entertaining evening, creating memories with laughter and friendly competition.
We’d immerse ourselves in the local art scene, exploring galleries and museums, strolling through the captivating Wynwood Walls, and enjoying the spirited ambiance of the Guitar Hotel’s sports bar at night. A beach day, complemented by dinner at a Jaya at the Setai, would provide the perfect blend of relaxation and culinary delight.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

I would like to thank God, my sustainer, and provider, for guiding me and providing the strength to pursue my endeavors. Additionally, I am immensely grateful for my tribe – my partner, family, and friends – who consistently offer unwavering support, encouragement, and love. I am blessed to have grown up with parents who instilled in me the principles of entrepreneurship from an early age, emphasizing the importance of grit. Their teachings have been a constant source of inspiration, empowering me to persevere despite challenges. This journey wouldn’t be the same without the faith, love, and guidance from these integral elements in my life.”
