We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Sgroi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Laura, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk is the ever-present possibility of failure and success. I have never played it safe in my life or my career, therefore it has always been there. From taking first steps and making first moves, to moving from the Dominican Republic where I was born and raised to the United States to pursue my professional dreams, to reconnecting online and starting a long-distance relationship with an old flame who later became my now husband, to writing “In Our Thirties” in my second language, to betting on natural fertility and a medication free birth and changing my career for the third time in my thirties, my biggest goals have involved a considerable risk. Being alive is a risk, to love is a risk, to go for what you want is a risk. As the saying goes: Do it anyway.
What should our readers know about your business?
I became a certified coach, bilingual speaker, and published author of “In Our Thirties” after a successful 18+ year career as a Communications and Entertainment professional. What sets me apart from others is my ability and creativity to face challenges with grace. What I am most proud of is the trust gained from colleagues and clients over the years. After 140+ hours of training with the University of Miami and almost 300+ hours of practice, it has not been easy to transition to my new career, but with effort, dedication, passion and great coaches and mentors, I have managed to stay committed and overcome the challenges. Infinite lessons learned along the way, among them: Go for what you want and be a leader for yourself. Beyond wanting the world to know about myself, my brand, and my story, I would like to invite them to learn more about themselves and their own stories which is vital for their happiness and success. The future is bright. I am excited and looking forward to growing along with my clients and readers.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have not been out since the pandemic started, therefore we would drive around town, but do most meals and drinks at home. Straight out of the airport I will show them the Miami skyline, always makes me smile. In normal circumstances, for breakfast, my favorite meal of the day, we would cover everything from a Cuban ventanita at Versailles or La Carreta, to The Salty Donut, and a nice brunch outdoors with live music and a view. For drinks (virgins for me!) I would take them to the beautiful bar at Sins Gastrobar in Miami Shores Village. I would go neighborhood hopping from Coral Gables to Miami Beach, stopping at Azúcar for ice cream on Calle 8, South Beach, and Wynwood, for people-watching, art, and culture. We would hang out at Upper Buena Vista, until we are hungry again so we can finish at Vista Restaurant! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It would be impossible to choose who to mention here. My family, my husband, teachers, friends, bosses, colleagues, mentors, clients, most people around me have contributed to my growth and success, and I am forever grateful.
