We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauren, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to share my 30 years of extensive knowledge and genuine love and passion of design with others. I had semi retired 3 years prior… and I had a God Wink at 65 years old to continue to do what I was “born to do”. I opened my Design Firm in February, 2020 and March, 2020 Covid 19 hit and the Country closed down until May, 2020. I will humbly share that I have been blessed and thrilled to have the opportunity to have worked with 20 clients since May, 2020
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m excited to be an entrepreneur and look forward to using my 30 years of experience to help my clients realize their dreams. This is my WHY I opened my design firm last year, A Designers Touch by Lauren. I began my career providing design services nationally and internationally for major dealers in High Point and Hickory, North Carolina. I was honored to receive awards and recognition over my 30 year career. The American Consulate to The Saudi Arabian Government sent a letter of appreciation and commended me for three villas I designed for the Sheik of Bahrain and the excellent service and design I provided the Sheik and his wife. It was an honor! Whether someone is a Sheik or anyone else, I approach each and every Design Client with the same Respect and Passion to “Be of Service” and create a Beautiful, Inviting Home. I like to work in a very collaborative way with my clients using my Skills, Experience and Passion for design to allow them to realize their Vision and Dream. I am a Nature Inspired Wellness Interior Designer. I became Nature Inspired naturally by my time living in Japan at an early age, surrounded by all its beauty. Being surrounded by the sounds of koi ponds, the beauty of cherry trees, and the smells of all the tropical flowers brought such calm and serenity to me as a child living in another country. My trademark designs aim to create a tranquil environment that incorporates elements of nature through color, water features and artwork. I’ve been blessed to do what I love in life, and I feel it’s important to “Pay it Forward” both Personally and Professionally. This journey has not always been easy… I overcame obstacles along the way but never lost my inner desire and focus to “show up” each day with the best of intentions. It’s not about me, its truly about my Clients. I don’t take being invited into my Clients “sacred space”, their Home, lightly. My mantra is I will “take the stress out of nesting”. Whether someone is building a new home, remodeling or refreshing, it can be very stressful. I not only strive to bring beautiful Nature Inspired Designs, but to bring joy to my clients. “My greatest joy is the special relationships that develop with my Clients” Let us never forget how kindness changes lives during the valleys and the mountaintops! I would love to assist you with your Dream Home to create the Stunning, Inviting, Peaceful Retreat you so desire.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would tell them to go to Biscayne Bay and rent a boat for the day. Some of my best memories living in the Miami area as a young child was spending time on Biscayne Bay! I learned to water ski there at 7 years old. I remember that day as if it was yesterday. I would tell them to go to a Concert in the area and eat the wonderful Cuban Food in the area Yum!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Darla Powell. Darla Powell Interiors The Wingnut Social I heard Darla’s story on another Podcast last year where she talked about that she was a Police Officer for most of her career and then followed her Gift and Passion and opened an Interior Design Firm 3 years ago. Her openness and honesty and story spoke to me. I had retired after 30 years as a Designer in The Home Furniture Industry in High Point and Hickory North Carolina 3 years earlier. Last year I had a “God Wink” to open my Design Firm as this is what I’m born to do! Listening to Darla gave me the courage to follow my Passion and God Given Talent to just do it! I am forever grateful to Darla for all she does for others in the Design Industry with her amazing Social Media Podcast. The Wingnut Social. I listen to her every week and she and her guests inspire and educate all of us in the Industry. One month after I opened my Design Firm, I was honored to be a featured Guest on The Wingnut Social Podcast to share my story and to encourage others no matter your age, to do what you were born to do! I wrote a new chapter in my book of Life last year at 65 years young… and created my company A Designers Touch by Lauren. I am forever grateful to Darla Powell… professionally and personally that our paths crossed!
