We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Pires and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lauren, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I believe what inspired me to pursue an artistic career would be my parents. Sometimes I feel like a photocopy of my father, we both have the same interests to the point where we work together on almost every project. I have always been a visual person, and I think expressing yourself or your brand through design is extremely important. We eat with our eyes first, we judge books by their covers – it’s just the way humans are. I have a passion for engaging audiences to want more, which is why art and design will always play a crucial role in my life.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I began my journalism career in high school and it has followed me to my second year in college. I have focused on student journalism because I enjoy reporting on close-knit communities. I feel that as class sizes get bigger and school becomes more digitalized, we forget to make connections with our peers. Student journalism sheds light to the successes of a university and the students who thrive there. I like to consider myself as a jack-of-all trades. If you need it done, I’ll get it done. I love to tell captivating stories, design magazines and newspapers, photography, video production, and most of all – creating fresh ideas for my team.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of the best parts about living in New York is that it seems that there are endless places to take people to. I actually love it when my friends come to visit because many of them haven’t really been to New York for longer than a few days – so it means we can do all the touristy things that my New York friends are tired of doing. Since the weather is finally clearing up, I would definitely plan some outdoor adventures. Maybe a day in Coney Island with a caramel apple in one hand and a Nathan’s hot dog in another. I absolutely love Columbus Circle, and I’d take my friends on the longest walk through Central Park. I swear I have taken walks in Central Park since I was young and I have always found something new each time I go. I love to paint, although I am not very good at it, (but I am a believer that bad art is better than no art!) so I would definitely paint with my friends on one of the many beautiful spots in this area. I would definitely plan a shopping day in Williamsburg. That area is filled with amazing thrift stores and the community there is so different from the bustling streets of Manhattan. Of course, I could go on and on listing places forever, but if you’re ever in the city, you must eat at these places: Jackdaw, Pietro Nolita, Sushi On Jones, 5ive Spice, Ivan’s Ramen, Artichoke Basille’s Pizza, and Cecconi’s.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There has been so much encouragement in my life to pursue a career in journalism. From my wonderful parents who support my journey, to my media teachers all the way back in high school. I can’t even begin to express my gratitude to my coworkers and friends from south Florida. I would like to dedicate this shoutout to both my parents for allowing me to discover who I am as a person and guiding me to be a humble and empowered individual.
