We had the good fortune of connecting with Laurie Trefaller and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Laurie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I created my own business so I could incorporate all of my backgrounds: therapy, energy healing, yoga, reiki, and my own personal experiences. I always wanted to help people from a very young age, yet I never expected to have my own business. It was through trial and error of trying different jobs and career paths that ultimately led me to understanding that I needed to create my own healing business.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Professional Life and career – Intuitive Guide, LPC
What I’m most proud of is that fact that I have never given up on myself or my business. It has not been easy trying to grow a business while also trying to heal from multiple chronic illnesses. I got to where I am today from both hard work, obtaining degrees and certification, while also listening to my intuition and guidance to create my own work to help others heal holistically. My brand has evolved over the years, as I have evolved personally. It’s amazing to have this extension of me and my healing to watch the journey. I had to use each aspect of my own education background as a professional counselor, yoga teacher, reiki master, and energy healer, to help me personally heal chronic illnesses and traumas throughout this time. There have been many setbacks, many times when I wasn’t sure if this was going to work out. Yet ultimately, this is my passion and what I need to follow. My biggest challenge has been continuing to grow and work on the business, even when there are crickets, breaks, seemed like “nothing is working”, and physical symptoms that didn’t allow me to “show up” they want I desired to, yet I never gave up. I leaned on my support group and mentors to help me through these challenges, and ultimately cultivated a deeper relationship with myself. I believe the path of entrepreneurship, and creating your own business, is ultimately a journey of deep inner healing.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
While I’m not from Miami (yet can’t wait to get there one day) I would absolutely go to the beach, especially to watch the sunrise and sunset. Being by the water, grounding in nature, is my absolute favorite and so hhealing. I also think the warm weather makes it perfect for most activities where you can be outside.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I highly recommend to all everyone I work with the books by Tara Brach – Radical Acceptance and Radical Compassion which have helped me along my healing journey. I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to my support system who have been with me through the entire journey and support my dreams.
