We had the good fortune of connecting with Lazaro Suarez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lazaro, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
As a young adult, I always wanted to run my own business. I always had this vision of speaking in front of a crowd of people who were all part of a large company that I built, not a reality just yet, but I still have that vision. My thought process behind starting my business I would say, materialized from that vision. I worked for a company as a General Manager for a non anesthesic, pet dental company. Great opportunity, great company and I would have to relocate to grow a new market. New management came in and one person in particular felt that I didn’t have what it took to carry that title. Even though, With little support I felt that The market I was in was steadily growing. I decided to part ways, spoke with a few of the people that supported me most on my journey in the veterinary field and decide to start my own business performing non anesthesic pet dentals. The thought of not only helping pets, but also delivering great customer service and being able to educate pet parents the way I envisioned motivated me to the point of no return. And I am so happy that I took the leap of faith!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a young boy I always wanted to be helpful, always wanted to do good and help my family and even strangers. I guess That’s why I chose hospitality as my first job. I studied accounting in college and always took course revolving around business management and entrepreneurship. I was a Banquet server, Bartender, F&B manger. I pretty much did everything you can think of in the restaurant/ hotel industry and I loved it. I thrived as an employee and a manager. I took customer service serious and truly loved delivering exceptional service. But when Raul Cardona called me and explained to me that the company he was working for was having trouble getting teams to deliver better customer service, he asked me to join his team as a Practice Manager. I was skeptical at first because I knew very little about the veterinary field. When I expressed my feelings, he assured me that he would teach me the ins and outs, as I showed him when he was in the hospitality industry which helped him earlier in his career. He told me that with my management experience, with accounting skills and my to notch customer service, that I would be fine. And the rest is history.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friend were visiting for a week. Daytime activities would include morning trips to the beach, with a cooler full of goodies and a nice beach umbrella to take a break from the sun from time to time. I grew up in Miami Beach so would only be right to visit the touristy part of town. Maybe walk and shop a bit and share a bit of history of my time there. I would also plan to visit different restaurants for lunch, from seafood, to steaks and local bakeries like Vickys and Manolos. Being that I love outdoor local markets we would definitely find where they were happening and pass by as well and support local and small business and vendors, maybe even catch a Miami Dolphins game at the Hard Rock Stadium. Night activities would probably include Bayside, definitely would swing by Wynwood through the art district and stop at bars and have some craft cocktails and locally brewed beers, a trip to Brickell wouldn’t be a bad idea either. Also, may swing by Hollywood Blvd and walk the beach at night and maybe have a bite to eat and if he or she wants to spend a few extra dollars we would take a trip to the Hard Rock Casino. I think we would need some time to rest after all of this.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this shout out to few people. Starting with friends and family that supported me along the way. Also a shout out to a good friend Raul Cardona which introduced me to the veterinary field 15+ years ago, because of him, I began my journey in this amazing field of helping Pets and Pet Parents. Also Alvaro Nunez which was great support and had become a good friend. Raul and Alvaro were field leaders when I started as a Practice Manager for a veterinary hospital. Dr. Christine James taught me so much about veterinary medicine that I wouldn’t be where I am today without the roots she planted in me from the proper way to hold/ restrain pets to the more complex services we perform as technicians in veterinary hospitals like answering dentals and surgeries of different sorts. Ana Rios which was the person who introduced me to non anesthesic pet dentals was a key part in me learning and becoming a great non anesthesic dental tech. And last but not least the owners of the businesses which I’ve partnered with to deliver an alternative method to maintaining our pets oral health in tip top shape. Maria at Tender Care Pet Salon, April at Rocky’s Retreat, Kim at Beyond the Leash, Laura at Happy Paws, Allison at Bark Twice, and Sumyr at The Fur Parlor .Thank you all so much.
