We had the good fortune of connecting with Legal Fox (Shannon Harvey-Fung, Esq.) and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shannon, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Simply put, to fulfill a deep longing from within.

After over a decade of practicing law I felt strongly that something was missing from my day-to-day life. I then realized there was a gnawing creative spark within me that I must tend to. I felt stifled in the sole role as a ‘logical’ lawyer. Due to this, at first, I questioned if I wanted to continue in my path. However, I soon realized that I could still use the vastly helpful knowledge I’ve gained and channel it in a more amusing, innovative way that could also benefit a larger section of people. I set out to create video vignettes that were educational yet unique, savvy, sexy and light-hearted.  I aimed to captivate a general public that may have otherwise thought of law topics as boring.

With the help of a few talented people, Legal Fox TV™ – a fun, progressive, law-related web series – based on real-life cases and facts – was born.  In short, my creative career saved my legal career!

I’m now thrilled to be able to combine my legal savior-faire with my longstanding passion for aesthetics, video, and the Arts. In fact, one of the episodes had been selected to screen internationally later is month in Spain at the Bilboa Seriesland festival. I’ve been glowing ever since!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m an attorney (Law Offices of Shannon Harvey, P.A.) and a branded new media content creator. (Legal Fox TV™) Fiercely independent, I’ve run my own law office for over a decade and I believe we all have the power to create our own opportunities rather than wait for them!

I’ve always loved making law fun and accessible to everyone! My legal prowess reached new heights as I combined it with a fun, creative spark by creating, co-producing, and hosting Legal Fox TV™- a witty, provocative, award-winning web series based on the law.  The series highlights entertaining and real legal cases or information with a unique and humorous twist.  It allows people to learn and smile. That is what I am MOST excited and passionate about.

On the more traditional side, I represent clients in probate and guardianship cases as well as a chosen few intellectual property and entertainment law cases. My office has had the honor of serving a multi-year term as Private Counsel for the United States Dept. of Justice.

One of the challenges I face in my dual-sided career is that as an attorney it is second nature to over-analyze as well as become caught up in minor details. I try not to do that with my artist side and the video scripts or production of the episodes. Nonetheless, the habit creeps in. I’ve learned to overcome this by realizing that at a certain stage you simply have to have confidence that a project is ready to go, despite the fact that there could always be one more tweak.

Underneath my playful ‘love affair with the law‘ is a strong soulful side that meditates often, teaches dharma, and volunteers with the terminally ill. I hope to continue to Educate, Entertain, and Inspire!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There’s such an abundance of awesome things to do in Miami that it is challenging to narrow down. Lincoln Road would be high on the list. There’s no shortage of shopping, cafes, people-watching, and Art Deco buildings to satisfy any visitor. Afterwards, we’d head over to Lido Bayside Grill in The Standard Hotel along the bay for chic relaxing bite, enjoying their F’rose and vegan lasagna while watching the yachts float by. Paddle-boarding around the Miami bay is a must-do for a great workout as well as a tour of the stunning homes on the coast of Miami Beach . Taking my inflatable kayak for a spin is also fun and fitness-oriented.

Next up, we might travel across the Venetian into Wynwood for the best progressive, hip, art and culture. For the evening meal we’d saunter over to the cool, cactus-lined decor of Bakan and chose from an endless selection of the finest tequila known to (wo)man and a unique cactus salad. We’d polish off the night at Morelia with a (vegan) paleta, one of the most delicious dessert I’ve may have ever eaten.

Of course, Miami nightlife is a classic. However, until that re-opens properly once the city-wide curfew lifts  I won’t tease and torture myself by sorting through all the alluring bars, clubs and lounges!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Huge shout-out to all my viewers for supporting what started out as a novel idea. Without people’s open-mindedness and good humor my web series, Legal Fox TV,™ would not have progressed as it has. Also, huge credit goes to those who have helped in the planning, production, and circulation of the videos. I’ve been very grateful for the high quality of service I’ve received, especially considering the indie budget.

I also certainly want to shout-out Miami Web Fest, BNM Web Fest, Bilboa Seriesland, and Toronto Feedback Film Festival for the recognition and providing web series creators with a powerful platform. Similarly, I want to recognize all the other indie-creators that I’ve met at those and other events. I’m humbled by the level of talent and, most importantly, the genuine help they lend to one another.

I also appreciate the important support I receive from my friends and family! Last but certainly not least, thanks to my colleagues and the legal community for embracing Legal Fox TV™’s unconventional approach to learning!
