Meet Leonie Resuma | Hairstylist /Healthy hair educator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Leonie Resuma and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Leonie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I officially started my business out of necessity. —I couldn’t get to work, so I had to hustle to pay my bills. That challenge pushed me to bet on myself. I also wanted freedom, control over my income, and the chance to create something meaningful. I saw a gap in how clients were being educated about hair health, and I knew I could fill it with purpose, passion, and real results.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career as a hairstylist and healthy hair educator has been shaped by real-life challenges, hard work, and a deep passion for helping people feel confident in their natural beauty.
What sets me apart is my focus on hair health first. I don’t just style hair—I educate my clients on how to nourish it, retain length, and build healthy routines that actually work not only for their hair, but for their life.
I’m most proud of the transformations I’ve helped create, not just physically but emotionally. When someone sits in my chair, they leave feeling empowered, seen, and renewed. That’s what excites me—impacting lives through something as personal as hair.
Getting here wasn’t easy. I started my business out of necessity, with no safety net—just determination and faith.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is to trust my vision even when others don’t understand it and
Passion, authenticity, and genuinely caring is the foundation to a long lasting business.
I want the world to know that my brands Nourish and Grow and Kamilah Lee is built on love. It’s not just about products and styles—it’s about education, love, and healthy lifestyles. I’m here to change the way we think about hair care, one client at a time.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly, I’m pretty low-key. A good time for me is my best friend coming over, I cook for her, we sip on cocktails or coconut water—because, you know, balance—and fall asleep on the couch while a movie watches us. We also visit every plant store/ nursery in the area.
But if I had to go out, a few of my favorite spots are Big John’s Eatery and Soul Good for food. And if there’s an event at XD Event Hall, I’m there every time. I’d take her to the gym with me although she hates working out.
I also love browsing at Barnes & Noble, heading down to Aventura mall and treating myself to a good mani and pedi. Simple joys, good vibes—that’s my kind of fun.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out a few people who have been instrumental in my journey:
First, God—for always making a way.
My father—for setting the example.
Snow of Essential Virtual Assistants—for being the backbone of my business.
And my kids and my hubby—for loving me through the long days and absent evenings.
