We had the good fortune of connecting with Lexshootsphotos Llc and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LexShootsPhotos, how do you think about risk?
Risk has always been a part of my journey—it’s something I’ve learned to embrace rather than fear. I’m naturally a risk taker, and while the fear of failure is always there, I’ve come to understand that without risk, there’s no true growth or success. It’s easy to stay in your comfort zone, but I don’t think you can expect anything remarkable to happen if you’re not willing to take chances.
For me, one of the biggest risks I took was transitioning from a part-time photographer to pursuing it full-time. When I started, I wasn’t sure it could be a viable career. I had doubts, and I honestly didn’t think I could make a living doing photography. I worked in nightlife, 4-5 nights a week, juggling that with my photography on the side. But after a few years of honing my craft and building my portfolio, I realized that the more I committed to it, the more the opportunities started to come in. Now, five years later, I’m fortunate enough to have turned photography into my full-time business. I went from working in the nightlife scene to shooting 4-5 days a week, specializing in everything from events to lifestyle and swimwear. The journey hasn’t been without its challenges, and not all risks pay off immediately. But I know that by stepping into the unknown, I’ve created a career and life that I wouldn’t have imagined possible when I first started.
Taking risks doesn’t mean there won’t be moments of doubt or fear—because there definitely are. But it’s in those moments where you really learn what you’re capable of. If I hadn’t taken that first risk, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Risk is absolutely necessary for growth, and it’s been a crucial part of my story.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What truly sets me apart in my field is that my art starts with me—how I choose to present myself, the energy I bring into each project, and the authenticity I embrace every single day. I’m a heavily tattooed female photographer with lifestyle facial piercings, and my look is constantly evolving based on how my character feels that day. I wear my identity on my sleeve—literally. This isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s an expression of who I am and what I stand for. My art isn’t confined to the images I capture but also in how I navigate through the world.
I’m incredibly proud of the fact that I’ve built a career while staying true to my alternative, unapologetic self. Early on, I was told that my appearance would be a barrier to landing “serious” or “professional” gigs, and in some ways, those warnings held true. There were definitely times when my look was seen as a liability, and I lost out on opportunities because I didn’t fit the traditional mold. But instead of letting that deter me, I made it my mission to turn those doubts into my fuel. I pushed harder to hone my craft, training my eye and pushing my skills until the quality of my work spoke for itself.
Getting to where I am today was far from easy. There were moments when I felt like giving up, tempted to fall back into the comfort of nightlife jobs where my look was more accepted. But I kept reminding myself that there’s always a market for those who dare to be different, and I refused to conform. Instead, I focused on consistency, always shooting, always learning, and embracing the mindset that there’s always room for improvement. My journey has taught me that success doesn’t come from blending in but from showing up fully as yourself, flaws, tattoos, and all.
If there’s one thing I want the world to know about me and my brand, lexshootsphotos, it’s this: I’m living proof that you don’t have to fit into a neat, traditional box to make an impact. I’ve carved out my space by being authentically me, and I hope my journey inspires others to embrace who they are, no matter how unconventional. The obstacles I’ve faced have only made me more relentless, and I believe that when you combine passion with resilience, you can thrive in any industry—even one that might not initially welcome you with open arms.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my best friend comes to visit, it’s all about enjoying a mix of fun, food, and a little spontaneity. I’m not usually one to stick to a rigid itinerary since we prefer to go with the flow, but if I were to plan out a week to show them the best of Fort Lauderdale and Miami, it would look something like this:
Day 1 – Welcome & Unwind
We’d kick things off with a laid-back beach day—either Fort Lauderdale Beach or maybe Hollywood Beach, where the vibe is chill, and the water is perfect. After soaking up the sun, we’d grab a late lunch at Coconuts for some fresh seafood right by the water. To wind down, we’d head to The Wilder for craft cocktails in a vintage, cozy atmosphere.
Day 2 – Fitness & Foodie Adventures
Since we’re both pretty high-energy, we’d start the day with a gym session at The Gym Fort Lauderdale. For brunch, we’d hit up Top Hat Deli for killer sandwiches and mimosas. The rest of the day would be dedicated to exploring the art scene, so we’d swing by the Wynwood Walls to check out some incredible street art, followed by a visit to The Perez Art Museum. Dinner would be at KYU Miami, a trendy spot known for its Asian-inspired dishes.
Day 3 – Comedy & Movie Night
We both love to laugh, so we’d spend the evening at The Miami Improv or Dania Improv for a comedy show. we LOVE to laugh! Afterward, it’s all about comfort food at La Sandwicherie, where we’d grab some late-night subs. Back home, we’d throw on some horror movies—maybe a mix of classics like Hellraiser and newer hits like Terrifier.
Day 4 – Food, Drinks & Dancing
This day would be dedicated to eating until we can’t anymore (one of our favorite pastimes). We’d start with breakfast at Bachour, where the pastries are practically edible art. Lunch would be a casual vibe at Taquiza for some of the best tacos in town. For dinner, we’d dress up and head to Komodo in Brickell for a swanky evening of Asian fusion and cocktails. We’d end the night with some dancing at my old spot “Blackbird Ordinary” where the energy never dies down.
Day 5 – Beach & Relaxation
After a few busy days, it’s time to relax again. We’d take a drive to Key Biscayne for a change of scenery and hit Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park for some quieter beach time and maybe a bike ride around the park. On the way back, we’d stop by Joe’s Stone Crab for an iconic Miami meal. To close out the day, we’d chill at Las Olas Boulevard, maybe stopping for some ice cream at Sloan’s.
Day 6 – Creative & Active Day
We’re both all about trying new things, so we’d take a dance class—something fun and energizing like hip-hop or salsa at ShowStoppers Dance Studios. After working up a sweat, we’d grab dinner at The Taco Stand in Wynwood, where we can chill with some margaritas and street-style tacos. To end the day, we’d check out some live music at Gramps in Wynwood or Revolution Live back in Fort Lauderdale if there’s a good band in town.
Day 7 – Farewell Brunch & Wrap-Up
On the last day, it’s all about a relaxed vibe. We’d have brunch at Louie Bossi for some delicious Italian fare on their outdoor patio, followed by a slow walk down Las Olas for some last-minute shopping and people-watching. If there’s time, we’d hit FATVillage Art Walk if it lines up with their schedule, to soak in some more art and local creativity. Finally, we’d wind down at Rhythm & Vine for some chill outdoor vibes, a great way to wrap up an unforgettable week.
The best part about these kinds of trips is the balance of spontaneity and hitting up some favorite spots. Whether it’s getting dressed up for a night out or sweating it out in the gym, we make sure every moment is packed with good vibes, great food, and unforgettable memories.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely! I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of some amazing people and experiences along the way.
First, I have to give a huge thank you to my dad. Back in 2009, he bought me my first DSLR camera, a Nikon D5000. I don’t think I would’ve developed an interest in photography or even considered it as a career if it weren’t for that gift. That camera sparked my curiosity and set me on this creative path, so I’m deeply grateful for that.
Next, I want to shout out my boyfriend, Chris Headshots. He’s been an incredible source of support, not just in terms of helping me grow as a photographer, but also in teaching me how to turn my craft into a viable business. His guidance, both creatively and professionally, has been invaluable.
I also owe a big thank you to Joey Wright, a talented photographer who specializes in natural light. His mentorship helped me understand light in a way I never would’ve on my own. It’s a fundamental skill that I carry with me in every shoot, and I’m lucky to have learned it from someone so generous with their knowledge.
And finally, a huge shoutout to all the amazing people who have stood in front of my lens—my clients, collaborators, and models. Every session is a partnership, and I learn something new from each person I photograph. It’s a collective effort, and I’m truly grateful for everyone who’s been a part of this journey.
Success is never just about one person; it’s about the community that supports and lifts you up. I wouldn’t be here without all of them.
