We had the good fortune of connecting with lhonette charles and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi lhonette, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Before starting a business I was working five days a week and during those working days I would work 10 – 12 hours a day. While working I missed out on a lot of activities; from seeing my kids growing up, to missing soccer games and missing quality time with them. Now that I have my own business it’s a blessing that I am able to balance my life now with my family. My kids are 11 and 7 I have good enough time to be at their soccer games and spending time with them. I didn’t realize how much of a sacrifice it took me to make life changes when I started my own business, however the sacrifice was a good one because now I am able to balance changes. When I think about the balance, I believe it was a good balance change, due to the fact I have the opportunity to see my kids journey in life without worrying about clocking in to someone else work place.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a hair colorist, I am most proud of having the chance to make my clients happy. The things that set me apart from other is being a person of my own words, having integrity, and having self-confidence. As a businesswomen, I’ve came across many obstacle/challenges. Having to manage being a mother to my kids and a wife to my husband, however that didn’t stop me from facing obstacles in my business place. Owning your own business, there will never be a smooth road. Growing up as a child in France, I always had the passion of beauty and fashion. When I turned 16 years old after high school, I told my parents I didn’t want to go to college. Instead, I wanted to go cosmetology school. After telling my parents I wanted to to cosmetology school, they were disappointed because they thought this wasn’t a good fit for me. Their dream was for me to become a doctor or a lawyer.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My best friend from France, I would bring her to my favorite Italian restaurant name Luna – Paste e Dolci. Than, I’ll take her to La Natural to have a natural wine. After having a glass of wine we will hang out at the Standard Hotel Miami to see the most beautiful sunset.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First I would love to shoutout God who’s been the head of my life. Without him I don’t believe I would have all this Faith to even go through this business process. Also my husband and family who’s been there every step of the way, pushing me and letting me know there’s nothing that can get in my way.
