We had the good fortune of connecting with Lia McCollum and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
In 2010, after years of experience in the cleaning services industry, I decided to start my own firm after acquiring more and more customers. A company specialized in more than just cleaning has emerged as a result of the constant growth of our customers and opportunities. I wish my company would be different from the others. So, the way we value our customers would make that difference and be the factor behind it. We care about our customers, the manner in which we treat them is the most important factor behind our success. We make a point of treating our clients personally as we have direct contact with them, access to their houses, offices and their belongings. We place great emphasis on treating the customer with the attention and dedication they deserve.
What should our readers know about your business?
Direct contact with the client, organization, punctuality and the desire to meet the client’s expectations are the basis of our work. That’s what makes us different. I am very proud to see where we are and where we are going, to see everything we have accomplished and to be recognized for a well done job. It has not been easy to get to this place. It took much perseverance, believing that no matter what you do, you can do better. You can be a doctor and do better, be a nurse and do better, be a janitor and do your best. Neither profession is better than the others. You have to perform at your best. We face everyday challenges and having the right mindset and emotional control are key to success.
Along the way, I have learned that you must make decisions impartially, since all your decisions will be well considered by some and not by others. There will always be someone who will love or dislike whatever you decide.
All I want is the world to know that we are here. That our job of cleaning is not underemployment, it is a job, a necessity and that we are important. I would like everyone to understand that people are as important as service. Growing my business means my employees also grow, and my goal is to make my company bigger and better known. My goal is to provide a better quality of life to those who walk with me. As a businesswoman, I can’t think of an end, and I don’t intend to stop. Anyone who owns a business knows that our careers never end. I would like to leave my kids a legacy. That is my purpose. For this reason, I make a point of letting everything right, having a duly legalized and authorized business.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We can find the best eateries in Fort Lauderdale and Miami; the best beaches are in Boyton Beach and the best stay in Key West.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First of all, I thank those who believed in me, who believed in my story, who believed in my leadership, and who are by my side today. It would not be possible to be in the market for so long, to conquer victories and overcome challenges, to have the number of customers and employees we have today, if I did not have the people who have accompanied me along the way. Of course, I cannot help but thank my mother for everything she taught me, my husband for all his support and patience (lol), and God for what we have achieved so far, for the success and for the people who have joined me. Thank you to everyone who has made this accomplishment possible.
